A very friendly, welcoming young lady greeted me on arrival. The room was lovely, large, and very clean. Comfortable bed.
Loved the location - it was in a very tranquil setting. May not suit everyone as you need transport to drive to restaurants and shops. I stocked up in Oamaru before my stay. A very restful place to chill out. Take some reading material with you. TV reception?

It was great to stay in a grand old Fedation style house, which has been loved and cared for and altered by its owner, Roger, to become a comfortable guest house with heaps of character. We loved the innovation and collection of older furniture and memorabilia. Breakfast on the verandah with its gorgeous view was brilliant- and we loved chatting with our host. This was a memorable stay!

The North Otago (base in Oamaru) area is a hidden gem. Penguins, seals, steam punk, cheese factory, crayfish and blue cod at Moeraki, historic sites. And good restaurants in Oamaru and the area (Whitestone Diner -- as long as you like cheese, Fat Sally's, Fishwife, Moeraki Tavern, Hampden Fish shop and others).
We go back regularly and the area rarely disappoints. To enjoy fully you need a car.

It's a really cool town, the victorian precinct is amazing and you can spend hours just walking and admiring the buildings. There's a farmers market on Sundays and a lovely train that departs from the front to Steampunk museum to the penguin colony. It's a short but beautiful ride.
There are sea lions and seals everywhere and it's guaranteed you'll take nice pictures from them 😉

The penguin sanctuary was lovely and we saw penguins during the day in the nests. The evening tour was fully booked so get in early if you want to do that.. The steam punk museum was suitably odd and they were very friendly when we got caught in a downpour and stayed sheltering there while they were closing. Plenty of chance to see seals basking on the foreshore.
The victorian precinct however was just a street - possibly more exciting if you are from New Zealand of Australia but we live in a property older than anything on the street so not really that exciting if you are from the UK or the older cities in the US

A very pleasant surprise, was recommended to stop here by a friend, so glad we did. A quirky place , so much history. The Victorian quarter alone was wonderful. Steampunk also worth a look. Easy to walk around the town too. Ps some hilly streets 😀
Roger the host was very welcoming and had provided everything we needed for our comforts. The bed we slept in was the most comfortable of anywhere we have stayed. It was a bonus to be able to chat with other guests in the dining room, something you don't get in motels or hotels. Great view too.
There was the initial shock of our surroundings as it is a house full of incredible stuff but it was more interesting than off putting. An experience we will remember for a long time.
High quality bathroom facilities and beautiful decor. Exceeded expectations. The location was amazing, Brydone Hotel is in the CBD. We were travelling with a ute and a trailer and the parking at the rear of the building was outstanding, with plenty of room. (This may be different if an event was on, but our experience was that it was perfect for us (we phoned first to check). Polite staff, this accommodation is of excellent value and delighted that we stayed there.
This accommodation was luxury extraordinaire. We felt spoilt and our room was massive with all the amenities provided we couldn't have ask for more. The breakfast had a lot of choices and was laid out like a 5 star hotel. The hosts David & Liz were warm, friendly, attentive and it's obvious they really enjoy people's company. Liz even turned down our bed and put the heater on whilst we watched the penguins.
This residence is fabulous facing the sea and surrounded with green plants; the inside of the residence offers all the facilities like a five-star hotel and looks artistic and neat; the owner is caring, loving and considerate; when I arrived it was raining and wet, she offered pickup and sendoff from and to the InterCity bus stop; No.1 choice when you have a chance to visit Aoruma!
Thanks to the hospitable and friendly staff it's been for me the very best accommodation in New Zealand. I was very greatful to them even for not being so strict with checking out times, free left luggage room and so on. And Oamaru itself - you must visit the town to understand the atmosphere. Would love to come once again.
Excellent service, we had late check in and they accommodated for that. Staff were absolutely amazing. Facilities cleaned daily, cleanest motel i’ve ever been in. Lovely room with a great layout. Will recommend to anyone staying in Oamaru! Thanks for having us
Beautiful cottage in the heart of Oamaru.
Great location especially if you have a reservation at Cucina.
The accommodation was clean and had everything you could need. Wonderful log burner for a cold night.
I highly recommend this place.
Such a gorgeous house. The bed was incredibly comfortable and cosy. Room was so spacious and tasteful. Carol was a brilliant, accommodating dating host who made us a delicious breakfast the next morning. Best place to stay in Oamaru.
Great extremely quirky hotel great artwork and memorabilia to look at. Well situated 10 minute walk to the old quarter. Welcoming hosts simple but tasty breakfast would highly recommend and would stay again!
Really love this place, highly recommend to anyone who plan to visit Oamaru and stay for one night or more. You will definitely love it!
It worth the money you pay for.
The Villa is an amazing Victorian house nestled in the middle of Oamaru. The house is comfortable and everything you need to make it a home away from home is provided.
Easy to find (peppermint green), close to Oamaru town center, and a cosy cottage with charming furnishings. Definitely would stay here on a future visit to Oamaru.
