My Partner and I have visited Akaroa three times, the views are absolutely beautiful, the French heritage is evident, gardens are well maintained around the village. There are lots of little shops, cafes and restaurants to suit all.

Lots to do here. Great shops and cafes/restaurants. You must sail on the Fox II to see the dolphins, penguins and seals and learn about the local history. Outstanding!
Very walkable town and also some good hiking.

Akaroa is a must-visit township, it has some amazing cafes/restaurants, and the food is great and varied. Some of them have both inside and outside seating so it is lovely to take advantage of that on a nice day. There are also some great wee shops to visit where you can find a treasure of two. We found a gin-tasting cafe that is a must-visit when you are there and also an Indian Restaurant whose food was amazing. All the shops and cafes are within walking distance if your accommodation is in town. There are some great walks to go on and we also went swimming with the dolphins which is an experience I highly recommend when you are in Akaroa.

We loved the quaint historic town.
We loved the quaint historic town. We loved its French flavour. The cafe’s and restaurants outstanding especially Ma Maison where we had the best meal ever. The food, the flavours and the welcoming staff, outstanding! We had breakfast at The Common, again fabulous. We loved walking round the bay to the quay. Everyone was so friendly and happy to stop and talk. At the end of the quay was the prize, the beautiful pearl shop, an absolute must to visit. We can’t wait to return. Already planning a longer trip.

I have been a regular visitor as my French ancestors founded it. The only thing that stops me coming more often is that dangerous-feeling hill up and down. Nice, quiet (mostly) place that focuses on food, events and nature. Need to put in a lot more effort to add more genuine French flavour to shops and activities. A simple Bonjour is not too difficult. Akaroa's true French nature is being dumbed down by new arrivals who are only interested in commerical gain.
The property is located just a little further from Akaroa and is a very beautifully landscaped place. We enjoyed our visit very much and walked the property with all the flowers and nice views.
The hosts Nicky and Fram treated us so well and surprised us with several delicious treats at our arrival. We also enjoyed the great advice for food and things to do in the area.
We would stay there again for sure.
The gas fireplace definitely took off the chill on the winter evenings. Everything looked to be meticulously cleaned, which is a very comforting touch. The remoteness away from the town makes this a very relaxing holiday cottage.
Being able to use private cooking facilities meant we were able to have some lazy time at the cottage while reducing the cost of food by preparing ourselves.
Sharron & Noel went that extra mile to make our holiday extra special. The historical home was set in romantic gardens - trees 160 years old - native birds. Loved sitting under the verander taking coffee with home baking. The breakfast was a dream berries, pastries and those amazing cooked breakfast. Our hosts had thought of everything to make our stay extra special.
Really? 5 star Michelin rating for our breakfasts. View from the B&B toward Akaroa delightful. The hosts were both helpful with touring advice and very pleasant. We left feeling sad to leave them both.
Note: The entire B&B is spotless and beautifully furnished.
They are the place to stay on the Banks Peninsula.
The whole experience whilst only an overnight stay was what we were looking for at the end of our 30+ day NZ holiday.
Akaroa was much like we expected and really not too far from Christchurch airport ( 1hour 45 min ) Property was just great as was the host and the included breakfast was delicious.
HONESTY! As I got a message from bookings after I checked out that the house cleaner found my phone in my room. After a few calls with hotel staff, they went an extra effort to help get the phone returned to me. Many thx for that.
My stay at the Grand Hotel was pleasant, and the food was good.
We love this homestay. Very clean and tidy. The couple are very kind and friendly. The husband told us in detail where to visit in Akaroa. We appreciate that. We love the courtyard with very beautiful flowers. We enjoyed our stay in Halfmoon Cottage.
Sits well in Akaroa with all aspects. This property was top of the tree compared with the booking of Cute Cottage in Cooks Beach as we are seeking a rebate on that booking due to poor facilities as detailed in our comments already posted.
Setting was private and tranquil. Cottage was spotless and well appointed. Great kitchen area and bathroom. Spacious inside and out. Lovely grounds and setting for walks, very quiet at night. Loved the song of the Bellbirds.
Peaceful, secluded cottage. Clean and tidy. Lovely balcony with small BBQ, table and chairs. Nice to hear the birds. Close to Akaroa town centre. Good communication regarding directions and key access.
What a lovely apartment, in a superb location! The furnishings were shabby chic and tasteful and the large windows gave a wonderful view across Akaroa harbour. Comfortable beds and intimate space.
so unique, location at center of town, comfortable size, very clean, the coffee and pastry around the corner, happy hour at the corner bar, 2 parking spots with unit. Nice spot to be in Akaroa.
Lovely view and quiet location, convenient drive into Akaroa. Comfortable warm beds and warm house, especially with the fire on. Would definitely stay again!
