Built around two medieval settlements with the Upper Town (Gornji Grad) being its core, the city skilfully combines modern attractions with well-established favorites. Zagreb is a vibrant blend of history, culture, and modernity. Nestled between the southern slopes of the Medvednica mountain and the banks of the Sava River, Zagreb offers a picturesque setting. Its historic Upper Town (Gornji Grad) is characterized by cobblestone streets, medieval architecture, and landmarks such as St. Mark's Church and the Lotrščak Tower. The Lower Town (Donji Grad) contrasts with a more modern atmosphere, featuring elegant 19th-century buildings, lively squares like Ban Jelačić Square, and cultural institutions like the Croatian National Theatre. Zagreb is known for its green spaces, with parks and gardens providing peaceful retreats amidst the urban bustle. The city also boasts a rich cultural scene, with museums, galleries, theaters, and a thriving café culture. Initially finding our way to the Dolac market (it was towards the end of the day so fruit and vegetables were cheaper) was via a bus and then a tram (best to travel with local currency in coins as public transport is very cheap), however as we explored the public transport network via the tram route it was a faster way to travel into and out of the city from where we stayed at m-blok. Catching a bus and tram back to the city to hire a car was seamless on our last day. Getting to and from places is very easy once you know where you're going so a car is unnecessary in Zagreb. You can buy bus/tram tickets at Tsik kiosks located close to public transport or on the bus/tram. Note that most coffee cafe's only sell coffee and not food. We enjoyed food from Pekara Dubravica 'home of the finest snacks'. They have a great chicken salad, three different types of burek and more. We ate at II Secondo (reasonable price and big serves), Burger Bar and Burger and Beer Bar Mrav (cheaper eats and big serves).

If you wanna be welcome ,don't come.
If you wanna be welcome ,don't come. I am saying this as a homegrown Zagrebian. I always feel unwelcomed, and I was born here :)
If you're passing through, by all means.
Foreigners generally like Zagreb, but if you're up for a good time, fun, music, company, just don't come. It's not worth the trip and it's not worth your money. Remember this capital is not treating it's own people well.
Go somewhere where the citizens are respected and foreigners are warmly welcome. Y'all have great stayings and safe journeys!

Zagreb is a great city ,transport very good easy to use and every kiosk sells trams tickets 56cents for 30 mins accross town and can be bought in various mins including a day ticket to travel from early morning to till night . there is a city bus that takes you to the airport for 1.12 euros you get a tram walk a few mins and pick up a bus so can be done cheaply, there is an 8 euro bus journey to/from the bus station and then a tram from there to centar and you know you have arrived as its like a big square with shops and resturants around it and on the right a of square the tourist office. A lot of the Churchs/Cathederal and palaces were not open to the public since the earthquake in 2020 still under repair as are a lot of buildings with minor damages. Lots of resturants to eat every where reasonably priced, the best shopping was in the area around the main train station there is an underground shopping mall and lots to choose from down there. .

The city is an easy city to travel around especially if you are central. Transport is good. The down side is the airport bagage claim, the airport lack of announcements for delayed flights and the fact that places of interest are closed on Easter and Easter Monday.

We only stayed in the old city and it was beautiful.
We only stayed in the old city and it was beautiful. So many green spaces, parks ,statues, sculptures and gorgeous architecture. Lots to see for free. It’s an easily walkable area but the transit is amazing and so affordable! There are so many museums to choose from. I really enjoyed the Museum of Broken Relationships, it was funny and sad and made me cry a few times, but was really unique. We also enjoyed being in the Stone Tower when the canon was fired. The gunner? or artillery man was a real treat . We were amazed by the Mirogoj cemetery and the Botanical gardens were lovely. Our favourite meal was at Stari Fijaker 900. Great food, service and historical ambiance.
Excellent, well-maintained boutique hotel, 10 minute walk from the upper town and cathedral. Bathrooms were very new, with beautiful terrazzo bench tops and Rituals toiletries. Breakfast was in a very pleasant setting in a glass atrium in the middle of the courtyard - wide choice of buffet and a la carte items. There was also a little open-air terrace where you could relax after a day of sightseeing. Trams were close by, but without traffic noise. All the staff from the front desk, waiters to housekeeping were friendly and helpful.
The hotel is brand new and modern! The reception immediately made us feel welcome by providing safe parking, tips for dinner and special treatment for our dog. The hotel is VERY pet friendly! Each room has a dog bed, two dog dishes and a goodie bag for your pet when you let them know ahead of time. The rooftop bar is also a great place to have a drink, obviously beloved by guests as well as locals.
We would definitely stay here again and recommend it! 👍
Fingerprint Luxury Apartment by far was the best Airbnb type accommodation we stayed at in Europe. The room spectacular; it is on par with a luxury 4-5 star hotel suite. It is spacious, very well designed, comfortable and very clean. The owner / manager was very responsive to our messages. They also provided a washer for guests to use, which was a nice surprise.
Our room was perfect for our stay in Zagreb. Cute boutique hotel. Nice location to shops and restaurants. We had to walk about 3 city blocks with our luggage to catch an uber because of streetcars and traffic on the street - be aware of that. The front desk attendants were very friendly and gave us great dinner recommendations. The breakfast is wonderful!
This hotel was perfect-the best of our vacation by far! It had the perfect location with a beautiful, modern, and very quiet room on the top floor, facing away from the busy street, just as I had requested. The staff were kind and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. I only wish that all of our hotels on this trip count be so wonderful!
Lovely hotel, well situated close to city centre. Bus station is just over the road which is helpful and tram stops virtually right outside hotel for easy transportation around city. All hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the receptionist who helped us out on more than one occasion with various queries and booking taxis for us etc.
Everything! Very kind staff, very nice room... the tram stops in front of the hotel... hotel has an excellent transfer lounge for the guests to use after checking out...one of the rare hotels near the Zagreb city center that practically has its own (shared with the mall) garage with the elevator leading directly to the rooms...
The hotel is a bit old fashioned but in "good meaning". I really like the atmosphere - you don't really feel it is a big facility.
Location is perfect close to the city center, you can have a nice walk to visit all attractions or just have dinner in the city.
I really like wellness area- swimming pool.
We loved the gym and spa at this hotel, the spa area was lovely, gym small but had what we needed. The surrounding area had lots of bars and restaurants, nearby supermarkets. The tram stop was around a 5 minute walk, you could walk into the city centre but it was probably half an hour walk.
Extremely well located next to all the vibrancy of Zagreb’s City Center. Hotel has a older section and a renovated side. Ask for a room on the renovated side. Excellent breakfast buffet. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Would certainly stay here again if visiting Zagreb.
This hotel is the best experience we had in Zagreb, this was our third stay and not the last. Free parking, amazing rooms and most of all the best staff. 24 hours front desk, great breakfast and overall comfort that you can only get in a much more expensive hotels. We love it !
Clean, comfortable, quite room with everything needed for a few days stay. Kind and helpful staff. The hotel is very close to the buss station therefore convenient to reach the airport. Around 15-20 minutes walk from the city center which was also convenient for me.
All of it, the hotel room was nice and comfortable, professional and well accommodating staff, and the breakfast was probably the best hotel breakfast I've ever had. The location was right next to the central square, very strategic. Thank you Hotel Dubrovnik!
Maja, the sales person, is amazing. She deserves a raise. Whole staff is amazing. Very comfortable stay. Close to the city center. All you practically need is close by. I really loved this hotel.
Location of Hotel 9 is near to city center but not exactly close by foot. Very close to business district. Everything is absolutely OK. Breakfast is nice and enough.
The location of the hotel is perfect if you plan to stay somewhere close to city center. And the parking availability is very useful if you travel by car.
Great hotel close to Zagreb city center. The rooms are very comfortable, great buffet breakfast and friendly personnel. Everything feels new and stylish.
