Centabay was my favourite hostel that I stayed at in New Zealand!!! I loved the vibrant atmosphere, the lovely backpacker-staff and the wonderful manager who was always a joy to chat with. The prices are incredibly reasonable for a place in the middle of Paihia, and you can tell the manager isn't in it for the profit - she genuinely wants to help travellers have the best experience possible. The hot tub worked well and was always great to use. The hammocks and tropical garden are another bonus. I could go on and on!
Under new management from mid 2022 and just 262 feet from Paihia Beach, Peppertree Lodge & Backpackers features 3 tennis courts and a barbecue area with outdoor seating.

Great to take the hole in the rock boat trip. Very convenient to catch the boat and hope over to Russell for a day trip. Lovely meal and walk at the wineyard in Russell. Lovely time to visit Pahia when it is sunny. Beautiful to spend 4 to 7 days chilling with the perfect sunset and sunrise. The indian restaurant along the beach at pahia is very authentic. Highly recommend pahia roadtrip.

Paihia is a very good place to stay if you want to explore...
Paihia is a very good place to stay if you want to explore Northland. If you are driving, you can go on your own to the tip of the North Island in about 3 hours. You can drive over to the Kauri Forest on the west side in about 1.5 hours. You can get tours out of Paihia for the Bay of Islands, the Ninety Mile Beach/Cape Reinga, Waitangi Treaty Grounds (you can walk there, about 3 km), rent kayaks or paddle boards, get fishing charters, take a ferry to Russell (or drive there). We spent 5 nights there and could have stayed a few more days and done even more.

Paihia is such a beautiful part of New Zealand!
Paihia is such a beautiful part of New Zealand! As the gateway to the Bay of Islands, there is so much to see and do here. There are some incredible restaurants to eat at and my husband highly recommends the Waitangi Golf Club just 5 minutes from Paihia. Definitely add the Bay of Islands to your list of places to visit in the North Island of NZ!

Great town with friendly locals.
Great town with friendly locals. All hospitality options covered, with a bar on a jetty that is very pleasant but always seemed short staffed. Easy walking town and a jetty to Russell with happy staff to greet you.
Visited Pompallier House in Russell which is well worth the visit and again met with lovely friendly greeting and service.

Walking distance to everything you need.
Walking distance to everything you need. Swimming pool is lovely ,but don't forget to bring beach towels. No fresh towel service ,but has washing machine. The two bedrooms are lovely and bonus 2 bathrooms. Great place to stay, will stay again.
Fabulous location, right across from the beach, and an easy walk into the center of town. We had an upstairs studio facing the water, and the view was incredible! I couldn’t believe that we had the same view as people paying MUCH more in other properties. The staff was pleasant, and helpful, offering suggestions for restaurants and answering any questions.
There was a very well-equipped kitchenette, and a laundry on site, as well.
I’d highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a Paihia holiday.
The Scenic Hotel Bay of Islands is a large, sprawling establishment and this suited us down to the grounds because we didn't have to live cheek and jowl with lots of neighbours. We were quietly oblivious of anyone else in the vicinity. The dining room was just a nice distance from our room, to give us a small bit of exercise when we walked from one to the other. The Hotel is only slightly away from the main beach and shops, so walking to and fro was a pleasant excursion.
This beautiful wood cabin overlooking the Bay of Islands exceeded my expectations. It was beautifully clean and well-appointed (with everything I needed) and in a few minutes walking distance of the shops and restaurants of Paihia. The best thing of all was the lovely wooden deck on the cabin, where I sat drinking wine and drinking in the exceptional views. Really a wonderful stay- and wish I could have stayed longer.
clean tidy and close to all amenities say 5 minute drive from Paihia
Chris and Michael are awesome host we stayed for 3 nights and it was a lovely 🥰 time of our life
the backdrop is breath taking and the hosts are knowledgeable and informative
can not thank the host enough
will definitely return again in future
loved the place hospitality and the kindness
thanks a lot Michael and Chris will see you in future
What a view!! Stunning view of the bay from the lounge area and the balcony of apartment 1. Large, older style, clean and comfortable 2 bedroom apartment with everything needed. Parking right outside the door. Short drive from The Retreat into Paihia town - too far to walk. Very happy and friendly welcome. The apartment reminded me of those lovely beach shacks in Australia we holidayed in when I was a child.
This property is amazing. I had a bad experience in another hotel in Paihia and was able to stay at Paihia Beach Resort for the remainder of my stay. There is no comparison. I will be back to Paihia Beach resort in a heartbeat. Staff were amazing, the room perfect, waking up to waves every day, the pools, the restaurant, beds comfortable, everything. And on-site spa. Best massage ever
This complex is very close to Paihia main shopping area in a quiet secure environment.
Our room was upstairs with a good view out over the area our car was parked in.
The complex is attuned to the environment it exists in and offers opportunity to participate in the activities in the Bay of Islands.
The host and staff were very accommodating and extremely helpful.
Family of 6 stayed for 3 nights. Room was clean & beds were comfy! Excellent location with everything within walking distance. Andy was very friendly & welcoming & allowed me to bring my 6month olds portacot! Will definitely be my go to place too stay when holidaying in Paihia with my children 😊
Centralized location.
There’s so much to do in this area that 2 nights are a bare minimum.
Their restaurant was great for both breakfast and dinner.
The Fullers tour to the Cape picks you up at the hotel. Take the ferry to Russell and catch the Hole in the Rock cruise. Too cool!!
Lovely hotel on a beach with an amazing view. We had a room with a terrace on the 1st floor. Enjoyed spending time outside and soaking in the hot tub. The food is amazing in the restaurant. You can also have snacks and drinks for a less during happy hour.
Comfortable room in a great location close to central Paihia. Paul was a friendly and generous host. Great value for money. Room was serviced daily. Very nice breakfast across the road at a hotel.
Location was perfect, on the main beach road just opposite the pier where the ferry to Russell departs. The views from the common area were spectacular! The staff were friendly and approachable.
Fantastic location, great to walk from the motel to anywhere in Paihia. We really appreciated the offer to leave the car at the motel after checkout, until we returned from our ferry trip.
The couple that own the hotel are very sweet. They gave us a lot of information about the area and brochures to help us get around. The place was clean and a small back yard.
