The room was very spacious and private, and the beds were very comfortable. The owner included lots of amenities and nice quality dishes and towels. He also provided nice bread, local marmalade and coffee for breakfast. Lived the area and was in walking distance of some good Okonomiyaki restaurants!

Quaint little town - lots of small, independent shops.
Quaint little town - lots of small, independent shops. Feels like you are stepping back in time. Everyone we met was very friendly. Perfect base for starting the Shimanino cycle ride across nearby islands. Good bike hire at docks.

Onomichi is easily one of the best places I've ever been to. There is so much beautiful scenery and so many hidden gems to enjoy. The people are marvelous and the food is amazing. And of course the great many cats to be seen make for a truly magical experience

My favourite place is the observation deck on the top of the mountain, which has a great view. You can take beautiful pictures of this city. For food, Onomichi Ramen is fatty for me, but there are other restaurants in city which have their own specialties. A city walk is recommended, since there are a lot of temples on the mountain, and you need to get there on foot, and explore their beauty. I will prepare a better shoes for the next trip and bring less item with me next time, because the tour on in the city requires a lot of physical strength.

For many Onomichi is the start of the Shimanami Kaido cycle route, but Onomichi has enough attractions that it is worth staying at least one day to look around. The Temple Walk is worth viewing the 25 temples along the route and the view from the top is great, and Cat Alley is great fun. A walk along the pier and having a snack or meal at one of the restaurants there is pleasant.

Onomichi is a nice seaside, port town and has a good vibe.
Onomichi is a nice seaside, port town and has a good vibe. Its the start, or end, of the Shimanami Kaido and attracts many people keen to do this cycling route. The town has a nice atmosphere as the people are friendly, helpful and accommodating. If I was keen I'd stay an extra day amd do the temple walking route as it seemed nice and went into the hills above town. Local ramen was demand served by super friendly hosts in the restaurants.

If you want to cycle the Shimanami Kaidou, be s7re to arrive early in Onomichi, since you are able to visit the main attractions, being Senkou-ji and the old temple course, in a few hours. After this you should be able to start cycling the Shimanami Kaidou.
The hostel is right in front of a quiet beach, in a very calm neighborhood. You can hear the waves at night, the birds in the morning, pet the local cat or even sheep. The common space is big and comfortable. The host is really nice, and we were very grateful when she gave us a ride. (the bike location center or supermarkets are a 45 min walk, add 5 min for the ferry to go to Onomichi centre). The traditional japanese room is quite big, with view on the sea.
If you have a car this is a perfect place to stay. 100% would come again!
Love this hotel! Just less than 5mins walk from Onomichi Station in a beautiful location. The clean, spacious room as well as room/bathroom amenities are perfect. I love the PJs provided!
You can opt-out of room cleaning ( I did because it was just a 2 nights stay ), but you can request for daily complimentary bottled water as well as other amenities from the reception.
The staff of Sakura Hotel are friendly and helpful.
Highly recommended!
This is a brand new hotel, just a short walk from Onomichi JR station and really close to the ferries to Setoda and Mukaishima. The rooms are sparkling clean and comfy, the staff is super friendly and helpful. The owner made sure I knew to check in on time and even came to meet me halfway to the hotel. There is a great view of the seaside from the rooms and the rooftop is great to chill in the evening. Will definitely return.
Great location at the end of Onomichi's long shopping street. The bed itself was very comfortable, though of you're a bigger person like I am, you might want a lower bunk, as the stairs to the top are kind of narrow. Izakaya downstairs is phenomenal, and common room is comfortable. Bathrooms were clean with nice toilets. Staff was kind and welcoming.
Great open layout concept with the hotel, restaurant, shop, and bike rental service sharing an open warehouse space. Friendly accomodating staff who arranged my luggage delivery without issues. Good quality breakfast with lots of variety both in the set items and the buffet. Five minute walk from JR Onomichi station and the Shimanami Kaido ferry boat.
Mange Tak Resort was beautiful. The rooms were big and cozy, beds comfortable, and bathroom very nice. Turns out I'm a big fan of Onomichi! Location is great, and the nice man working gave me a great recommendation for Okonomiyaki just a walk away. Very friendly place, people, and atmosphere. Also check out Ubeke in Onomichi! Both were delicious.
Hotel was close to the train station and a nice restaurant (arrived late and restaurant was still open--yeah!). We had a little confusion in finding the check-in counter because it was on the second floor, but a minor issue. Hotel is right next door to the place where we picked up our bikes to start our ride of the Shimanami Kaido.
The gentleman owner was friendly and provided a tour of the facilities. Stairs are narrow, but it is Japan, so it is expected. Good cultural experience. Information sheet to how to sleep on a futon was useful. Eventually realise the best place to brush your teeth was at the kitchen sink. It was only a one night stay.
The guesthouse was amazing and super cozy. Close to the train station and the ferry.
We stayed unfortunately only for one night but it was and incredible experience: also the ramen spot suggested by the owner was delicious and friendly.
A must stay if passing through Onomichi!
Simple hotel, nothing spectacular, sufficient for those looking for accommodation for a night. You will neither be impressed, nor disappointed. Very helpful stuff, answers all questions and helps with emerging issues. I got massage chair in my room, nice detail.
Hotel Cycle was perfect for the start and end of our cycling adventure. The location was great (near the train station and ferry terminal), the breakfast was delicious, and the staff was outstanding. They went above and beyond to help me with the bike rental.
Loved everything about this place. The welcoming staff, the room, the view. I thought I lost a ring and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and kind. Such a fantastic hotel and so reasonably priced - sad we couldn’t stay for longer!
The room was super pretty, and the shower pressure and provided soaps were nice. The surrounding area is full of cute shops and restaurants, we had a great time exploring at night and in the morning. I want to come to Onomichi again!
Location excellent. David at front desk was extremely helpful. We were so relieved to have a host that spoke fluent English and was a very good communicator. He also provided great suggestions for touring Onomichi as well.
Very clean, great Location right in the middle of the shimanami Road, very close to a conbini and an onsen.
They also have washin machines (5. The max i saw in Japan was 2 for one hotel), and bycicle tuning equipment.
The staff was exceptional. They helped arrange transfer of my luggage from Onomichi to Matsuyama when it looked impossible using the original way I had intended. Excellent hospitality. Thank you to the staff!
Great location in the main arcade of Onomichi. Lots of places to eat and drink nearby. An Japanese-style tatami room that overlooked the small courtyard. Shared kitchen and bathrooms are clean and organised.
It felt like a traditional Japanese home. I enjoyed the experience of staying in a very unique place. The staff were very nice and will always give us recommendations and answer questions.
