Cute little town near the airport. Probably not a destination, but, if you have a night to kill before flying out, it's fine. Otherwise, there isn't anything I know of to draw visitors. Couple cute restaurants on the main street. Felt safe walking around after dark.

We did more in San Antonio than we expected to do. The church in the center of town was welcoming, and there are a lot of restaurants with good food and service. The bussing to other areas (San Jose and Heredia) is well marked and has an appropriate schedule. Plus, the area felt safe to walk after sunset. Because of its convivence, we extended our hotel stay to stay in the area, and only bussed to San Jose for the day.

For us La Rivera is a take off and arrival point, so the easy airport access is important. It is an easy walk to a phone store or Pali supermarket for some basics, and the local pista, church and park give you a safe introduction to Costa Rica. There is not much else to do in the immediate area.
This hotel was a gem! The photos did not do it justice. We booked it for our last night in Costa Rica and enjoyed it greatly. The surroundings and decor were tasteful. My husband also enjoyed a dip in the pool.
A big thank you to the staff members as they were exceptionally nice and helpful - I don't like coriander and the staff members did everything to make sure I would have no coriander in my food. If we go back to Costa Rica we will book a longer stay in this hotel as they also organise wildlife trips.
The lady checking us in was very friendly and helpful. She was also very kind to let us check into our room early. She also made sure to show us the room and made sure that everything was clean and working well inside. The room was also a great size and it included a full kitchen with appliances. That was a nice bonus. There is also an excellent local restaurant right across the street from the hotel, which was very convenient.
I like to stay close to the airport the night before departure and the La Riviera was close enough for convenience but far enough away that I don't hear Jets talking off all night. It was perfect for this.
They also had a great restaurant/wine bar attached to the hotel, with the option of outdoor seating, and breakfast was included.
There were nice sitting areas around the pool and it was clean and crystal clear
We booked this hotel for a stay before an early morning flight out of SJO. We were pleasantly surprised with the services and hotel. Staff was super friendly and helpful. They provided us a 3:30AM airport shuttle with breakfast and coffee. The hotel restuarant was decent and affordable. The location is walkable to some shopping areas. Parking is secure and guarded.
Sitting areas around the hotel were very peaceful and comfortable. Great for reading and relaxing. The restaurant was fantastic. The communication with the hotel before and during our stay was excellent. They do their very best for you. We had to leave early in the morning, so they had fruit and coffee ready for us. The beds were very comfortable.
We got picked up from the airport and they also transferred us the next day to our rental car pickup location - so kind! The hotel has it's own restaurant where we experienced the Costa Rican breakfast for the first time. Near the hotel we also managed to get our CR sim card and some groceries so it was a perfect short stay to start our trip!
Hotel is well located to walk to the centre for food, restorants and bakeries. Room was nice with good beds but basic. The outdoors were small but lovely and the pool clean. Breakfast was excellent. The location of the hotel restaurant is very nice with flowers and garden. We enjoyed a nice evening there.
Rachel the receptionist was just wonderful and the rooms were large and very well cleaned. In terms of proximity to the airport the hotel works - a short taxi ride. The hotel has a lovely pool and everything it needs to be a really great choice - yet I wouldn't choose it a second time.
The absolute perfect airport hotel experience. We met an American family who own a property in Costa Rica and they stay here every time they come (twice a year). GREAT restaurant, the free shuttle is a great service and staff are ON IT. Next time we come we will stay here for sure…
The hotel is close to the airport. It has unlimited water and coffee at the reception. The staff is kind and helpful. I would suggestion learning some Spanish words here. The private room is quite big and has everything you may need as well as ventilation.
The Rivera hotel is a great choice for anyone heading to or from the Alajuela airport. The airport is only around 5-10 min by car/ shuttle. They provide an airport shuttle for free. The restaurant served an amazing Tico style breakfast.
Practical airport hotel with free pickup. The lady at the front desk was super helpful and arranged travel to arenal for a readonable price. Great freindly driver took slow turns to be considerate to the children. Good breakfast.
I arrived in the late afternoon and took dinner at the hotel. What I enjoyed most was Rachel practicing English with me while I practiced Spanish. Very courteous and pleasant young lady.
