The staff was very friendly and helpful when we needed assistance! The staff cooked our breakfast to order and it was delicious and filling! The common areas had tables, chairs and hammocks! The pool was beautiful and had lounge chairs as well. There was a field for children to play on and a big swing chair! The tropical plants and trees all around was so refreshing and we loved hearing the birds and monkeys in the morning. The air conditioning was key!!

Amazing views. We saw white faced capuchin monkeys and all sorts of birds (including hummingbirds and tucans) from our very clean and comfortable room.

The restaurant had good food. The best Gallo Pinto we had during our trip so far.

There are so many locally owned places to stay in Costa Rica making it a game of chance to find a good one, Tecal is a good one. When we arrived we found Tecal to be a popular destination as the parking lot was full. People used it for a vacation stay as well as for business. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff helpful and friendly. It was a short 300 meter walk to the beach. The beach is a national park so there is an admission fee, for Costa Ricans it is only 1200 colones. The breakfast was included and was very good. Service in the restaurant was excellent. There is a small super across the street, another restaurant, and a grocery store (MaxiPali) within walking distance.

The restaurant and the servers are the best part of this place and is why we booked here. Carla and Andres were incredible servers and were always doing everything they could to ensure we enjoyed our meals. Being celiac the 100% gluten free menu was a treat! It was so nice to be able to look at the menu and order anything. Even my partner who isn’t celiac said the food was very good. The reception staff and housekeepers were also very nice and did a great job cleaning. The views were very beautiful during the day.

Uvita is a lovely area to stay in, with beautiful beaches and plenty of waterfalls to visit in the area. We recommend taking a trip to visit the mangroves in Sierpes. Our kids loved the surfing lessons they had here.

Uvita is my favorite beach in Costa Rica.
Uvita is my favorite beach in Costa Rica. It's huge, you feel alone on the beach. The wildlife is beautiful. Tons of restaurants and places to walk. There are different beach sectors that you can chose from. It is a National Park, so you have to pay, but it is well worth it. One ticket gets you onto all the beaches. Staff in the Nationals Park is very helpful and there are patrols on the beach from the police and the National Park Guards.

Uvita was ungodly hot -- so hot that we really couldn't enjoy the sights. Even the ocean is hot. An airconditioned hotel room is a must! Even if there are many interesting birds and animals here, unless you have a high heat tolerance, you'll likely be miserable.

It wasn’t my favorite place in Costa Rica.
It wasn’t my favorite place in Costa Rica. Part of the problem was that it was so unbearably hot. I couldn’t go out and walk around comfortably. I didn’t go to the beach because of the heat and that would’ve been a big attraction also although my hotel was not far from town because of the heat again I found it unbearable to walk into town and walk around which I’d like to do when I’m traveling, so basically, my problems with AveUvita were weather related

Uvita is not the typical beach town, as it's very spread out and you need a car or a taxi to move around. In Uvita, you can visit the Marino Ballena National Park, which is possibly the most famous attraction in the area, where you can do whale-watching boat tours and other water sports tours like snorkeling and scuba diving.
We visited the Marino Ballena National Park and found its whale-shaped beach very suggestive and unique. However, we were also very underwhelmed by the poor housekeeping of the park. There was rubbish everywhere and this is disappointing and upsetting given that this is supposed to be a protected natural reserve and you also pay for the access at a substantial price per person, which should guarantee thorough housekeeping.
We went also to Playa Hermosa on our way to Uvita, but the amount of signs warning visitors of possible thieves, ruins a little bit of the vibe and it's not very relaxing having to watch your back all the time. Overall the beach is very nice and nothing happened to us. Since Playa Hermosa is also free to access, we recommend a visit, at least a stop by.

The beach and marine park area are well worth visiting.
The beach and marine park area are well worth visiting. Costs approx $6 which is very reasonable for Costa Rica. We saw humpback whales and heard them singing on our boat tour. We also snorkelled. It wasn't the right season for dolphins (they come in autumn).
There is not much to Uvita itself. It's very spread out and hard to walk around. Most of the roads are unpaved and dusty. It's perfect for a bike though. Many places (including the marine park) close down at 6pm, including most of the tour operators. The restaurants are good. There is a yoga place there but it only seems to have classes Mon-Wed.
The Tracopa bus service in the area (and from SJ) is very comfortable, punctual and reasonably priced. However you really need a car to explore the area properly - waterfalls etc.
Beds were comfy and clean. Reception was responsive and accommodating with a late check-in and allowing a late-checkout as well, which was really helpful. It's a very short walk to the beach which was stunning and pristine. Uvita is a cute, laid-back beach town, and in retrospect, I wish I would have spent more time there. At Yuli Hotel, I would have liked to have stayed longer to have been able to try out the yoga classes they offer above the restaurant.
We Loved our stay at the Tucan Hotel. You can see how much work the owners have put into the hotel in the past year: It looks fabulous. It's comfy, spacious, and feels intimate. The staff was so lovely. I also absolutely loved the presence of the animals around. It's right next to the big street in Uvita and yet far enough so we don't hear the cars all the time. The supermarket and many restaurants are also nearby. Very lovely stay!
This was a lovely little house I rented for two nights, charmingly furnished, clean, quiet and with everything provided regarding appliances and linens, AC and plenty of hot water. There is safe locked parking.
It's a locked facility from 10 pm to 7 am, a key is provided for the after hours,
The best part is one can walk to the beach and nearby restaurants, no need to pay/hunt for secure parking.
It's easy to find, good access.
Nice, modern hotel close to the Uvita national park. Bars and restaurants 5 minutes away. Nice pool and a kitchen for use by residents. Helpful staff and a very good Whatsapp communication system which gave us direct an immediate contact with the hotel. Nice pool and an on-site restaurant with entertainment. Whale Tail brewery nearby, also Uvita waterfall(go in via the upper access point)
The view is amazing - the hotel is up on the hills above Playa Hermosa, so you can sit and watch the ocean (and hear the waves crashing!). Toucans flit around the trees - didn't see any monkeys, but we were awakened by howler monkeys, a most efficient alarm clock! Be aware that the rooms are cabins without a/c, but all feel nice and secluded with ocean and/or jungle views!
the property was nice and clean, and the owners of the place, Silvia and Ferdinando, are hands down the best value added to this place!
the location is perfect, 10 min a walk to the main beach. the other great plus which come with the Italian couple who owns the place is the delicious Italian restaurant! even if you don’t stay at the hotel you have to try it!!
Great place for visiting Uvita! Conveniently located close to restaurants and the beach, the hotel offers clean and airconditioned rooms, a private swimming pool and a washing/drying machine (which came in very handy halfway through our holiday). Communication also went smoothly. Highly recommended!
We had an amazing stay ! Great location, quiet at night, clean, and a fantastic property. We did not have a car, and got around to restaurants, waterfall and the national park by foot. Sylvain answered all our questions and helped us get the best holiday in Uvita.
It was the best place where we stayed in Costa Rica. Really nice and comfy. the common area is super good, rooms are clean and bright. Friendly staff. Beautiful and empty beaches are very close. Were absolutely happy to stay here
Amazing views from the rooms and pool area, beautiful sunsents, toucans :) This hotel is a magic place. Great breakfast, pool area and gardens. The best hotel we stayed during our 3 weeks trip to Costa Rica.
The location had the best view and the property was even better than we imagined! The host was super friendly, accommodating and met all of our needs. Highly recommend this property for a trip to Uvita!
Loved being up in the jungle and immersed with nature! Falling asleep to the sounds of the jungle was the best part. We felt disconnected from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the city.
Everything was amazing! Monique and Hans are the best. The photos do not capture the beauty of this place. We were served an amazing breakfast the first day and welcomed with open arms.
Very charming staff, beautiful rooms and excellent amenities. The views from the room or the lobby are stunning. This hotel make us felt in love with Uvita.
