El Calafate is a small city in Argentinean Patagonia, situated in the foothills of the Andes and on the shores of Argentino Lake. Blending colourful wooden houses and Alpine-influenced architecture, it is the gateway to the Glaciers National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Booking.com offers a wide range of accommodation in El Calafate and surroundings, from 5-star hotels to cheap hostels.
The area was originally inhabited by the ‘Aonikenk’ people, while the modern settlement grew at the beginning of the 20th century as a refuge along the wool trade route, taking its name from the native blueberry bush known as ‘Calafate’. The town was founded by the Argentinean government in 1927 to promote the colonisation of the area, but its development started only after the creation of the National Park, in 1937.
The famous Perito Moreno Glacier is 80 km from the city. Mount Fitz Roy, the small town of El Chaltén, the romantic Onelli Bay, Lago del Desierto, and Roca Lake are some of the impressive landmarks that make up Argentina‘s 2nd-largest natural reservation. If you want to experience Patagonia’s languid vastness and tranquillity, try some of El Calafate’s rural accommodation or ‘estancias’.

The personnel at the hotel was tremendously helpful.
The personnel at the hotel was tremendously helpful. They helped me in a difficult situation where I had to buy airline tickets on an emergency basis. They helped organize an excursion, a trip to Perito Moreno and to organize transportation for my group of 13 to and from the airport.
My room was beautiful; in fact, all of our rooms were wonderful.
This is a quiet place.

The only thing to really do is visit the glacier.
The only thing to really do is visit the glacier. I thought we could do more to make an extra day worthwhile but the tours to visit the other parts of the park were super expensive. All tours in the area were way too pricey and you can’t really do anything else without a tour. The restaurants are good, but in general I think Chaltén has a lot more to do and see.

The trip to the Glacier was memorable, the people friendly and helpful. Restaurants were excellent and you could walk anywhere in town easily from any hotel in the central area. We had a lot of fun here! Highly recommend the Patagonia Queen Boutique Hotel. Rafael will take great care of you!

I am a tour guide and I come to calafate with groups, at the end of my work I have a day or two of rest for myself. it is a beautiful city. although it should improve its internet service (it is regular everywhere) and they have too many dogs loose in the streets although they are not aggressive.

El Calafate is the place to be for visiting the famous Perito Moreno Glacier. We did the Big Ice Adventure with Hiele Aventura and it was amazing. The town itself is fine but very touristy.
The waffle café elba'r and the Patagonia Brewery were the best places we went to eat and drink.
The Glaciarium was interesting, a very text-heavy museum, lots to read. We went to the Ice Bar there too, however I'd already been to the same concept in another city - if you've been to one, you've been to them all.

I did not like this hotel.
I did not like this hotel. It was miserable and did not live up to its advertising in booking at all. No good cuisine , no hot tub as advertised This is not a 5@4 star whitely and you are advertising it incorrectly
Centrally located. Within walking distance to downtown street. Very friendly front desk lady/owner, originally from Korea. Sue Won. Spoke decent English. Difficult to find English speaking people in Argentina. originally from Korea. Her brother came to Argentina 50 years ago and owns other motels/properties. Shared some of her personal stories as well.
Very nice. Sue was very helpful and made our stay very homely. Gave us some good tips on currency conversion which is a big mess in Argentina with the exchange rates...
Really well located hostel in El Calafate. Extremely helpful staff who spoke good English and were able to help us with booking a bus to Perito Moreno Glacier, telling us where we could get our laundry done, and booking us a taxi to the bus station. The facilities were great - lots of large shared common areas and a well equipped kitchen. Breakfast was delicious and served from early on so perfect for getting out and about for hiking/tours etc.
Perfect place to stay in El Calafate - would highly recommend!
Pretty good wifi - I was able to work remotely and hop on video calls with multiple participants, and access iCloud and keynote. At times, I would get a notice that my connection was unstable, so videos would automatically turn off. But I think this would be one of the best places to work from in El Calafate.
The location is excellent, and the family who runs the hotel is very kind and helpful. I had a wonderful time. The kitchen in my unit was also well stocked with a pan, pot, salt and utensils.
This is really a perfect hotel in every respect if you are traveling to el Calafate. The location is perfect for walking to the main part of the town, the room was simple but wonderful, and the value is unmatched. But the best part of all was Natasha at the front desk. She is the most amazing person. So sweet! She made us feel so comfortable with our stay and she is so much fun. We highly recommend this hotel and plan to stay here again whenever we return to Argentina. Thank you!
Perfect location next to the city center, and walkable distance to the Nimez natural park on the coast of the lake.
The hotel a bit old, but very comfortable, and the stuff very friendly.
The breakfast is typical for Argentina, lots of sweet staff, cheese and ham, not my favorite, but I guess that is the standard. The fruit salad great.
There is a hairdryer, but no electric kettle to boil some water.
The hotel has a really beautiful garden and the hosts were very nice. The hotel is not in the central area but it is only a short drive to the downtown so it's not an issue for us at all. The breakfast was also great. I wish we could've stayed here a little longer. The hosts spoke very little English, but with google translate, this wasn't a big issue. Rooms are small but cozy.
Excelent value for the price. The location on a hill somewhat outside of town is ideal for the views, especially at dawn. Breakfast is varied and of very good quality. We had dinner once at this hotel; the prices were markedly lower than those downtown El Calafate, but the dishes were excellent and well served.
Breakfast had a great variety for all dietary needs. Lots of storage in the room and hotel is extremely clean. Location is the best part, only 2 blocks from the main street in el calafate with shopping, tour offices, and restaurants. Staff was friendly. We're able to buy a boxed lunch for our excursion.
Position is very nice, close to central street but still quiet. Communication was excellent, on arrival full instructions were given how to get to the room. Dalmiro ia very attentive, gave us a lot of info on El Calafate, and suggested taxi services to Perito Moreno.
We loved Mary and her apartments! This is a great spot for anyone staying in El Calafate. Though not central, it is very close to the bus terminal. The apartments are very well equipped and very comfortable. And I can't enphasize it enough: Mary is a super host ! :)
We loved the Eco Vista Hotel and the manager, John. It was simple, comfortable, and spacious. Neatly tucked away from the major nightlife in El Calafate, but still very walkable. Note that there is no A/C so you will want to open a window in the summer.
beautiful view overlooking Lago Argentina. 2nd bedroom a plus for belongings. Grill and patio a great plus - we were able to have our first self-cooked meal in a month.
Mary, the owner, is incredibly responsive, warm and kind.
Room was confortable and well furnished. The hotel is located in a quiet location in front of the lake at short walking distance from
The center of el Calafate. A little expensive but all the hotels are in El Calafate.
The breakfast was awesome. Best one of our trip. This hotel is close to the bus depot. There is a convenience store (blue house) nearby that sells a wide range of things. You don't need to carry things from town.
The room ! Ultra clean, very spacious, very well decorated, beautiful view.
I don't understand the bad comments. It was one of the best places during our 3 weeks stay in Argentina.
Hosts are very nice and gentle.
The hotel is located outside the city center of El Calafate, however there is a hotel shuttle service in the late afternoon/evening. Nice warm relaxing pool. Beautiful design.
