Good skiing with everything you need within close proximity.
Good skiing with everything you need within close proximity. However, if you are looking for an authentic Japanese exeprience, you are not going to find it in Hakuba. There are a lot of foreigners and many of the establishment workers are foreigners as well.

The buses to get to other ski fields and around Happo One...
The buses to get to other ski fields and around Happo One are somewhat confusing but it seems that there are more buses than on the timetables so that is a bonus. Many lifts start at 8am, so ideally one would have breakfast at 6:30 so one could get an early bus, but may be a challenge finding accommodation that does this.

It’s a ski and snow lover paradise.
It’s a ski and snow lover paradise. A small town with not so much city vibe, but best for snow or ski experience. It’s the idyllic charm that stands out for me. Everything u need for snow and ski experience is available there, for rent or to buy.

Snow was great, the town was very cute.
Snow was great, the town was very cute. Most of all, it wasn't that busy and lift have good space. Plenty of slops to choose from, and great restaurants, shops to go around after ski. Especially onsen was one of the great thing to add after the ski!

Hakuba is great and very welcoming.
Hakuba is great and very welcoming. The people and food are amazing. The skiing was great given the snow levels were lower than normal. The only thing to keep in mind is the bus service, while convenient can get crowded and does not run as much as it maybe should. A car would definitely be a great asset to have.
Very friendly staff, couldn't be more helpful!
Ski drying area was excellent, is only 5mins walk to the Goryu ski field but as it was uphill, took the free shuttle instead.
Definitely not a ski in ski out experience, but with the discounted lift passes and rentals, and the easy access to Goryu/Hakuba 47 it was A great spot nonetheless.
Had an excellent dinner at the hotel, it was amazing! Breakfast was a mix of traditional Japanese and Western, never went hungry.
If we go back to Hakuba would definitely stay again.
From the moment we arrived at the bus terminal in Hakuba, we were met by Grant who took us to pick up our hire car.
Darren and his staff were friendly and helpful at all times, organising restaurant bookings and offering a ride to dinner if
needed. We had a two-bedroom apartment for our family of four and it was well-equipped, clean and spacious.
The location is peaceful and within walking distance from Happo One.
The bath came in handy after a long day skiing :)
The drying room downstairs was much appreciated too!
Our stay at Hakuba Matata Lodge was amazing. Managers were amazingly kind, helpful, and friendly people. They really made sure that we felt at home during our stay. The room was also nice and the beds were comfy. Definitely sufficient for sleep in/ out. The shower was a bit small but still manageable. The location was also great, just a few steps away from the bus stop going directly to a few slopes like Happo One or Hakuba47. The nearest convenience store was about 10 min walk in the middle of Echoland.
John and his partner and staff were friendly, helpful and went above and beyond in making our 1st stay in the snow in Japan a comfortable and memorable one.
John helped us organize ski passes, ski gear hire, ski lessons and recommended places to eat. An amazing breakfast was ready for us every morning.
Dry room facilities were great.
John organized transfers to the train station.
If you are looking for accommodation similar to B&B, then I cannot recommend this hotel enough!
We'll be back 😊
This hotel is much better than the photos shown in booking.com, especially the onsen, the photos shown in booking.com needed to be updated, to show the nice and clean onsen.
The dinner and breakfast provided by the hotel, is the best Japanese meals my family ever had, It's very delicious and fresh, we enjoyed and finished everything in our plates.
The onsen is not big but very nice, it has 2 onsen - one outdoor and one indoor, both are very warm and fantastic feel, especially after ski.
Great location, the hotel is about 5 mins walk from Hakuba bus terminal. It is a family run hotel and the fantastic breakfast is freshly cooked each morning. The hotel staff is very friendly and accommodating, albeit they can speak very basic English, there is no trouble communicating with them. You can also get a discounted lift pass for Kakuba Goryu from the reception. There is an onsite onsen which helps to relax the muscles after a day of skiing.
amazing place- we were there in April and it snowed our first night!
we managed to get half a day on Happo when it opened (it shuts due to wind a lot) and then a day on 47 which was incredible.
Not a lot of restaurants open as it’s end of season, and a lot seemed to be booked out (small local Happo ones). We always managed to find somewhere though although would have preferred more Japanese options!
All the staff were exceptional, very happy and accommodating, nothing was a problem, more than keen to assist with transfers & bookings.
Great location, very central.
The hotel provides transfers to Hakuba Group restaurants & Happo One Ski Resort, so convenient.
We stayed in a Family room which is perfect for a family of 4, very spacious & well layed out.
Definitely will be back 👌🏻
Walking distance to the Happo One ski resort chairlifts, restaurants and cafes. Private onsen available which is fantastic after a long ski day. Great traditional ryokan rooms. And best of all super friendly staff who have helped us numerous times with restaurant recommendations, forwarding our luggage to our next city, picking us up from Hakuba station, etc.
Very clean with all necessary facilities in the kitchen. Just outside of the guesthouse, there’s a free shuttle bus to ski resort in the morning.
Even 20-30 mins walk to Hakuba train station and supermarket, during winter, it’s a little bit far, however it is still within walking distance. Affordable and comfortable place to stay for solo traveler.
The apartment was sizeable and comfortable, a wonderful choice for a family of four. The location is excellent, just a 5-minutes walk to the pick-up and drop-off point for anyone wanting to take the shuttle from other Hakuba ski resorts. Soulza was immensely friendly and helpful and made our week-long ski vacation an exceptional one.
big hotel in Hakuba, nice onsen, big and clean room, good ski facilities (lockers and ski room), shuttle to Goryu stops at hotel, very good breakfast and nice buffet dinner. staff is very kind and helpful (we had some small issues with the room and they have been very understanding and solved all our problems)
The room had heated floors, very nice bathrooms, and great views. Multiple rental shops are within walking distance. Happo One ski lifts are only a few minutes away via the free shuttle (also walkable, but safer via shuttle during the winter months).
Great location to explore the different ski resorts in Hakuba Valley as it is close to the shuttle buses and an equipment rental shop. Transport from the train station to hotel was provided. Andy and his team were extremely welcoming and hospitable.
The Standard Chalet is sooooo spacious even for 4-5 people, and the location is great for both Hakuba Goryu and Hakuba Happo-one Ski Resort. It has everything that we need, might as well looking foward to stay here again when I go to Hakuba.
The host is extremely helpful and friendly!!
The location is close to Happo One, as well as the shuttle bus stop, which gives you an easy access to 47 & Goryu.
Facilities are clean and well-maintained.
Highly recommended!
Self contained unit with four Japanese tatami. The unit has underfloor heating and air conditioning heating. It is convenient to catch free bus to the ski slopes from the JR Hakuba station.
The ski in ski out ability of this property is amazing! The property is sitting right next to the best beginner slope at Goryu Ski Area serviced by a family friendly 4 person chair lift.
Well located in Happo One ski resort area, very helpful and friendly staff, clean and comfortable onsen (hot spring) available for guests, room is very cozy.
