Home of samba, Brazil’s 2nd largest city is sassy, seductive and spectacular. The Rio Carnival is legendary the world over for outrageous costumes and infectious rhythms.
Host of the 2014 World Cup final in Maracanã stadium and the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics, Rio de Janeiro is forward-thinking. High rises line Ipanema beach and you can find dozens of rollerbladers on the promenades at any time.
The hottest spot is Copabacana, a great place to try biscoito globo, a typical Rio beach snack. Sip a caipirinha here while the sun sets over the bay and mountains – it's unforgettable, but the fun doesn't end there. Clubbing in Rio is fantastic and ranges from techno to traditional bossa nova. Bohemian beats can be found in Santa Teresa and Lapa, where trams pass over a double-arched viaduct.
Overlooking all this from Corcovado mountain is iconic Christ the Redeemer, welcoming the world to Rio with arms outstretched. Take a cable car up to this statue on the edge of lush Tijuca Park for incredible views. Accessed by cable car, Sugar Loaf Mountain is also not to be missed.
Rio de Janeiro Airport is well linked to the ‘ Marvelous City’, but traffic can be manic, so leave enough time to reach it from your Rio hotel, apartment or hostel booked through Booking.com.

The people we did interact with were very friendly but I've been told only about 2% of Brazilians speak English which seems out of character for a tourist destination. It did seem true, however, and I used iTranslate/Google translate to get by. Rio was the final port on a cruise so we did run into people we knew as we went around. My brother had been to a wedding here a year before so we also asked his opinion, he thought 2 days would be fine. Maybe another day though I was ready to go home by the time I left. I noticed on the tour aggregators (Expedia/Viator) there isn't much for English speakers beyond Christ Redeemer, SugarLoaf, hang gliding and favela tours. No general city overview tours, for example. We had been to beaches along the coast so didn't need that but I was told Ipanema Beach was better than Copa, the nightlife was more geared to tourists and a cleaner beach. I stayed in Santa Teresa but couldn't really get into the vibe not speaking the language. I found amazing things to do - loved MAR (museum) of Rio and the church at the monastery of Sao Bento. My sister and I did do a private city tour which included going to Christ Redeemer and anything else we wanted to do. We were picked up at the pier and dropped at our hotel. We had a driver and guide so luggage was safe and communication was simple. I didn't bring enough outlet adaptors for the many types of electrical sockets Brazil seems to have, fyi.

Rio de Janeiro is a wonderful city to visit . Sugar Loaf mountain cable car gives incredible views of the city and Christ the Redeemer was wonderful and there are many other places to visit close by. The national park was a morning trip that is highly recommended.
We ate in local resturants both on the beach and one block back from the beach so many to choose from and all within easy walking distance. Prices reasonable - meal for 2 including wine varied between £25 -£40

Great area. Walking distance to the beach. The employees were excellent. I just felt bad that they have to tell clients that the pool closes at 17:00. Too early as after getting back to the hotel after 17:00 I could not use the pool. Which has an amazing view.

10 days in this town is enough to visit all the interesting places and of course the Beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema .For me the best was the beach outside the town taking Metro to last station Jardim Botanico .The sand more white the water more clean not so much crowded and the prices much lower.Visiting the interestig places in the city quite easy I strogly recomend to go to Placa XV and use ferry boat to go to Paqueta island also to cross the Guanabara bay to Niteroi and find bar Imperio do Sabor with the best caipirinha and sardines served there.

Rio de Janeiro is a beautiful city, full of life , plenty of nice restaurants an beaches. Is easy to move around as there are taxis services everywhere. Most of people in Rio are friendly and ready to help. Still a bit dangerous, so be careful with your belongings as mobile phones, jewellery etc... depending on the place like shopping centres there are lot of security, but not everywhere.
For the rest is an amazing place to spend your holidays ;-)

Rio is a great place to study for example at the PUC University in Ipanema or at the UFF in Niteroi. Perfect place to practice sports and meet friendly people! Highly recommend to explore Rio by bike, also surfing in Ipanema is great, not to forget paragliding and sailing. Would love to play football or volleyball at the beach with locals next time and visit the Museum of Modern Art. You might enjoy the pubs, salsa bars and live music in Santa Teresa and Lapa - I have joined a group, felt safe and comfortable. Beautiful beaches and exotic nature.
This hostel is a very beautiful place in Santa Teresa -Lapa area! It's in a quiet area but only a few minutes away from some restaurants and the centre! It's easy to meet people ,it has a great breakfast and the staff is super friendly and helpful in any way!!!
It ain't close to the main beaches though but with Uber or metro you'll be down there in no time! But if you only looking for this then you rather stay in Copacabana or Ipanema I'd say!
Highly recommend and definitely would stay again! Thanks !
The hotel met all my expectations great location very safe, in the middle of Copacabana beach, with plenty of restaurants choices, behind the hotel there is lots of local stores for shopping. Breakfast is excellent it has a complete buffet for both Brazilian and American taste (yes they have pancakes, bacon and omelets). Room was very spacious, I had a room for 3 people with king size and twin size bed all beds were very comfortable (American standard). Staff was great always ready to help.
Staff was very helpful, friendly and always smily, they helped us a lot with different tours & sightseeings and other staff, so special thanks to them! 😍 Location was just perfect - we were in the heart of Copacabana and felt very safe and comfortable. The price we’ve paid for accommodation was reasonable in the end considering the location where only fence hotels are located. The rooms are spacious and light, what makes the stay quite comfortable.
The rooftop pool is exceptional, boasting great views of the Copacabana beach. The breakfast at the hotel's restaurant is possibly the best I had in Brazil, both in diversity and quality. I worked from the hotel room, and the desk were spacious and comfortable, no Wi-Fi issue. The bed is comfortable, yet average. The desk on the beach (to set up a seat/umbrella) is amazing!! The staff went above and beyond for us to have a good time.
I was already in Rio de Janeiro for a few days while searching for a new place to stay. I had Bossa Nova Ipanema on my favourite list and spontaneously went there one afternoon to check availability and see if I could view a room. The reception crew was exceptionally friendly and showed me the hotel and a room. I booked and stayed at Bossa Nova Ipanema for a week. I very much enjoyed my stay there – great staff and location.
Andreas has to be the best host ever. He was really friendly and he went out of his to help us.
We really like the location, the place has a nice view of Christ the Redeemer and it is short walking distance to Sugarloaf mountain; there's also a mall (Rio Sul) nearby with a Havaianas store, and short Uber ride to Copacabana, Ipanema and Lapa.
In general we had absolutely no problem here and would come back in a heartbeat.
The hotel is absolutely stunning. We have stayed at other hotels along Copacabana but the Palace is the one to stay at. To their attentive concierge to the friendly staff, this gem of a hotel is the place to stay! We had a bit of a situation with our flights and we were able to come back to our room to use it before our next flight out. Everyone is so friendly and nice, the breakfast is phenomenal and pool is incredible.
The hotel is new and modern, close to both Ipanema and Copacabana. Nearby you can rent bicycles for the whole day. The staff is very friendly and attentive, breakfast was good but compared to other hotel in which I stayed in Copacabana could be better. The roof is very nice and the cocktails there are excellent but it is small and can get crowded easily. The swimming pool is very tiny, almost just like a big bath tub.
I loved the location, the style of the hotel (instagram-worthy!) and the amazingly comfortable bed. We were also able to take bikes for free (incl. free waters from the hotel) and cycle along Leblon, Ipanema and Copacabana beach - a once in a lifetime experience. The hotel restaurant is also very nice, great cocktails - and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
The staff were very helpful and friendly - a special thank you to Elaine for helping us book Churrascaria Palace. The hotel itself is in a great location - handy for Copacabana and Ipanema. The views each morning looking out over the beach were amazing. The breakfast was also very good for a buffet. The upstairs bar also has great views in the evening.
Originally when we booked into this hotel they put us in a VERY small room with a view of a brick wall. We asked the front desk if we could switch rooms. Our second room was beautiful. Clean, spacious, the bed was very comfortable. The staff was very kind about helping us switch rooms. Location was a 10min walk from Copacabana Beach
The residence itself is a part of the Real Palace Hotel just around the corner 20m. Everything you need is there: tour desk, excellent breakfast etc. The Copacabana beach is just 100m away, Ipanema beach 45 min. walk. Great location! Frendly staff, especially Mario. Wi-fi good. Clean and safe!
Excellent location close to most popular beaches Copacabana and Ipanema. The service was great, good breakfast and nice staff. The room was comfortable and good shower, little old style room though. My son also liked the hotel!
Can definitely recommend it!
I like very much the room: spacious and with really good furniture, I like the location of the Hotel it is close to the two most famous beaches of Rio (Copacabana and Ipanema) You can reach thena by walk.
They have a nice pool area and this hotel is really made for families with kids. The location is really good between Ipanema and Copacabana. They also have a laundry service at the hotel which is rare.
the hotel has a great location between copacabana and ipanema.it is fairly safe in the area.the rooms are basic but have all anemnities.the included breakfast is very complete.
Room is comfortable, and the hotel is very close to Copacabana beach and a good bakery. Staff is friendly, but messy sometimes. Bathroom shower was really good.
Nice hotel with a big room and friendly staff. Located at the beginning of Copacabana, not far from Ipanema. The breakfast is good and offers a variety of food.
