You need to book well in advance if you want to watch the Black Cats at the stadium of light! There is a nice railway connection to nearby Seaham if you want to visit. You can walk along the Wear through a sculpture park and the city centre is excellent for cheap food and drink.

Sunderland was good, but if you want 4* service at 4* prices don't go to The Grand. Only pub food and you make your own bed and carry out own room service. REALLY NOT ON.
Good point, staff lovely and very helpful

This hotel is really amazing place to stay.
The enterance of the hotel gives you a warm welcoming feeling.
The Boars head had everything we needed. Great location with fabulous views of the river, a most welcoming friendly helpful host. Great choice of complementary breakfast choices to help yourself to from a shared kitchen for guests to use. Comfy beds ! Next time we are in Sunderland we will definitely stay here again. The restaurant underneath the Boars head hotel is also worth a visit, friendly knowledgeable staff serve a great choice of delicious cocktails.
The location was a few meters from the city centre. The staff were very helpful. The facilities and the features in the rooms are excellent. From the refrigerator ( called cooler), the many wall plugs and USB plugs were active. They were all working. However, as good as the facilities are, there were no bathroom robes or slippers which should be an accoutrement that usually comes with Hilton hotels of its standard.
This was the worst experience ever I went to the hotel after booking and paying for it got to the door and they refuse me at my entry they told me that I needed to pay more money on WhatsApp and if I didn't they would not let me in they left me out in the cold all night disgusting
Great leisure facilities, and a superb sea view. Excellent value for money, in an amazing location. Seaburn and Roker beaches are far superior to those found at Whitley Bay and Tynemouth, and this hotel is right in the middle of the 2 Sunderland beach resorts. Highly recommended.
Love this hotel. We were at a function at the roker hotel and this was within walking distance. Great price. The bed was really comfortable and the room was clean. The staff were lovely and showed us to the room. Would definitely recommend and stay again! Thanks for having us

Great location for the theatre as in the city centre. Parking in a nearby multi storey overnight cost us £5 as there's no on site parking. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and the reception staff were great. Would definitely stay again.
The owner of the property is exceptional. He attends and replies so quickly to all of our queries. Even those that are beyond her scope already.
The property itself is close to city centre and has a decent neighborhood.
I have stayed at the Roker Hotel multiple times now and every time everything is always perfect. The staff are super friendly and very helpful.
The rooms are always clean and welcoming.
Breakfast always amazing.
The location is great, the views of the shipyard/sea was great. Its a great base for Sunderland/Roker Pier/Travel to Newcastle/Northumberland. The apartment was spacious and has a good layout/amenities inside.
Location and accommodation were fabulous, spotlessly clean and so quiet compared to the normal hustle and bustle you get with Hotels.
If I were to return to Sunderland this will be my new go to destination.
Convenience when visiting family - we have stayed the hotel on and off for 25 years but more recently used the Hilton Gardens at Stadium of light because it is "fresher" and normally cheaper.
This house was beautiful couldn’t have picked anything better. The location was brilliant. Right in the city centre. Don’t bother with a hotel get this house.
you feel home at Lemonfield Hotel, the staff are super caring and nice, the facility is so clean and food is delicious. highly recommended place to stay in.
