What an amazing place to stay! Went with 2 friends and we had the best time! The Double Decker was so well equipped and the attention detail was fantastic. Facilites were spotless.

Loved the big room and the comfortable bed. We were made very welcomed by our host, who was so helpful. M.y wife has difficulties with the stairs but our host provided breakfast in our room for her. Breakfast was good, as was the coffee..

We arrived at a very disorganized and dysfunctional establishment that was quite difficult to find, even with the mixed-up directions provided.
When I tried to clarify some issues with the host, she responded with, "I shouldn’t even be here, it’s my day off." This didn't address any of our concerns. I tried to change to a different room due to the confusing layout and the number of stairs, but was told they were fully booked but after pushing it, i was given a different room. Then for curiosity I checked their website and was able to book three rooms for the same night, so clearly the “we are fully booked” was debatable.
The hotel supposedly offers free parking, but we were told it’s on a first-come, first-served basis. Considering the number of rooms, many guests would likely have to struggle for street parking.
The bed was okay, but the pillows were cheap and uncomfortable. There is a fridge, but it was warmer inside the fridge than the room.
There are 12 downlights in the room, with two switches on the wall, one of which does nothing, while the other turns all 12 lights on or off at once so its all or nothing! Additionally, there are no bedside lamps, just a tiny reading lamp with very low wattage. There isn’t even a towel rail in the bathroom.
The rooms are noise transparent, noise travels heavily throughout the building so you can hear whats going on in the room above you and hallway noise is very bad. Also for a room for two people, there was only one arm chair and when asked if it was possible to get another one, we were told yes, but we never saw it which is consistent with the disorganization.
The rate is advertised as including breakfast but what is provided is a joke. A couple of pastries i. a paper bag, hung on the door overnight lol.

The room was warm and clean, bed was comfortable.
The shower had good pressure and water was hot.
Our host advised the room had been recently refurbished and asked if improvements were needed. We advised that a towel rail in the bathroom was needed, as there was nowhere to hang a towel.

The cottage that we stayed in was brilliant, but the time of year the weather was not great. We still enjoyed our stay. I always wanted to stay on Valentia Island. We did feel like we lived like the people did over one hundred years ago. They had it much harder time than what we experienced. So we had a great time and I would come back again some day . I say anyone that comes too Valentia, will have a great time, staying at Cuil Cottage, all the best.

Not very professional.rude comments which being g in ireland I suppose to understand d.i can take a joke but there is a line that you do not cross when you own a hotel or anything else.no lock on doors.asked for our eggs to be cooked soft.came out almost hard boiled.rang to tell them how disappointed I was and they hanged up on me.not the way to run a business.would have expected that kind of service in a cheap motel

Not a large island it’s easy to travel around.
Not a large island it’s easy to travel around. There are some stunning views and superb coves and beaches. It’s easy to access by either bridge or 5 minute ferry crossing. Light pollution from where we were on the north west of the island was virtually nil, so a perfect spot for stargazers. We would love to go back as our day trip and overnight stay was just too short. My only tip would be to buy wine/alcohol at a supermarket before getting into the island as the local shop in Knightstown doesn’t sell alcohol. 👍

Beautiful area of Kerry.
Beautiful area of Kerry. Stayed here to see the stars but it was cloudy every night, would be spectacular otherwise. Wonderful swimming spot at Glanleam beach. Within driving distance to amazing beaches and scenery with lots of things to do. Valentina Bee Beds was a fun experience. Highly recommend the Sneem seaweed baths which is a drive from the island. Loved Valentina island

Valentia is a lovely island but I would rank the royal valentia hotel as a one star hotel. It did not reach the 41/2 star rating it has been given in any way. Breakfast/ dinner is served in the bar area. Very limited menu, lipstick stain on the teacup, rotten pool table area, grotty public toilet area near the bar, dingy reception area, verywhole hotel needs a complete upgrade.

Get a map of Valentia Island (there is one available in the Skellig experience centre) and go to all the interesting places. The cliffs, the lighthouse, St. Brendan's well, there is quite a lot to explore on the island.
The Royal Hotel in Knightstown has good food which can also be enjoyed outside.
The island has a very interesting history of the transatlantic telegraph cable.
Magnificent views from the top of the mountain with a lot of information on the old Irish stories of Fionn Mac Cumhail.

Eileen is a lovely woman who runs a beautiful home that could not have been nicer to stay in. She was happy to offer us a ride to and from Portmagee for dinner, had a deck of cards when we adked for one, and provided three terrific breakfasts. The location was phenomenal, and she had a variety of options for things to do nearby that we otherwise would not have found. We've booked stays from Bulgaria to Edinburgh and this was the most pleasant we've had!
Absolutely amazing place! The cottage is well equipped, very functional kitchen. The whole place is very welcoming. The sea view guaranteed. Place it's clean and warm. It's a short walk to the village where you can grab a dinner or a drink in the hotel. The communication with the host was very good, they gave us some tips and recommendations. Self check in, very easy instruction.
This place is incredible. Very well organized, clean kitchen, place to park your car and close to many tourist attractions around. The trailer where we stayed was very cozy and cute, as are the outdoor area and gardens. The staff lady was so nice and very welcomed, she explained us everything and gave us a map showing what to do around. I definitely would recommend this place!
Very friendly mother and daughter owners. Very accommodating to us, we are a family of 6 with 4 teenagers. Went from a self-catering stay to their b&b and they even let us use their fridge to store perishables in it. Went out of their way to ensure we were looked after, good knowledge about the area and things to do in Valentia Island. I couldn’t fault them.
The electric blanket!
The weather was dry so it was a pleasant experience. Very peaceful. Very interesting, and quirky. Something out of the norm which I really enjoyed.
The self catering cottage was wonderful, the shower and toilet facilities basic but worked very well with the whole concept of camping out.
A stay at Glanleam is a very special experience, it is not like a B&B or a hotel it is like visiting family
Everything is relaxed and casual, it is the owners home and you can see touches of that.
We loved everything and as per many other reviews the breakfast was great
Nice Irish breakfast with lots of fruits. This is by far the most scenic location in 20 days of traveling Ireland. The sunsets across the bay, over the lighthouse are fabulous at 10:00 pm! Book two nights as there is so many things to do nearby.
The Carriag Liath House is fantastic! The host Francis goes above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay on Valentia Island! The property, the views and the proximity to Portmagee for food and fun makes this a perfect spot for holiday getaway!
The house had everything we needed for our 3 night stay in Valentia. Home away from home facilities. It was very clean and the owners were very helpful. Had a wedding in the local hotel so the location was ideal as it was a 2 minute drive away.
Reenglas House, was the perfect, serene B&B, for our 2 day trip to discover Valentia Island and Ring of Kerry. Kieran insured we had a comfortable stay, sea view and sumptuous bedroom with en-suite.
Very comfortable, clean and very relaxing atmosphere……the host was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Great location and great value……would strongly recommend this as your holiday base.
Fabulous location, beautiful island with loads to see. Local hotel excellent for food. Old world house , very cosy and clean and home very well equipped, host Mary was lovely and very helpful.
The farmhouse was lovely and peaceful. A welcome respite from hotels. Had everything we needed and was cozy, comfortable and charming. Our host was wonderful and very accommodating.
Lovely location on the water, just a short walk from Knightstown and an easy drive to spectacular views of the peninsula and the Skelligs. A perfect place for a quiet retreat.
Glanleam House is a destination in itself. A must for anyone interested in exotic gardens and classic historical architecture. It has its own protected beach with calm water.
