The bullet train ride from Tokyo to Niigata had lots of beautiful scenery along the way. So glad we decided to visit here on our third trip to Japan. I spent 2 nights in Niigata because the hotel I wanted was booked out. I recommend spending there at least three nights. I visited Yahiko, a city nearby, which has a gorgeous park with Momiji trees, it was beautiful at the end of October. However, I had only a small amount of time for Niigata itself.

I stay at downtown, near the train station. So it is pretty much a lot of things to do. Excellent restaurants all around the area. It was right at the train station and the bus area was also right there. Very convenient. If you go out toward the Family Mart there are really no restaurants, more residential. But if you go the other way there are restaurants, a Starbucks, shopping. Just need to go in the right direction.
