Pity because it could be a lovely place, perhaps it was but it’s very rundown. However, the sculpture of Ali and Nino is worth the visit, it’s spectacular! People are lovely too. Nice place. Hotel was near the beach. Two minutes walk. People are nice. But it does not have a hotel restaurant. There is a small one which belongs to a private rental company but any one can use it. It is worth visiting Batumi.

Batumi is not a city - it's an attraction.
Batumi is not a city - it's an attraction. Everything is made for tourists and for wow-effect. People, free from soviet architectural principles and with new found money let their imaginations run wild and it resulted in a sort of perverted Disneyland, with funky buildings, tons of services and overall feeling of a funfair. It is a great experience to be here, but only once, while wow-effect still works. As for what's near Batumi - to the south are some exceptionally beautiful mountains, and to the north - great small towns for beach leisure. Also make sure to visit the Botanical Garden.
