The backpacker felt more like a hotel. The kitchen was very clean, well equipped and spacious. The facilities were regularly cleaned and the floor even has been blow-dried. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was very quiet and clean. Also food and drinks in the bar were great value.

Looking for a hostel?

Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.

Great location, friendly and professional staff, a bit dated generally, we had a budget room so wouldn't have expected great comforts. This room was the same price of the cheapest Airbnb.

I'm going to miss the Marion so much! Best hostel I've been while in NZ (and probably anywhere else!?). Super comfy bed, great staff, cool common rooms and kitchen, everything always clean! Free bike rentals! It's a great place both if you want to meet new people or if you want to be on your own. And a great place to start exploring Welly! 😊

Best hostel I've stayed in. Amazing converted building with lots of different areas for socialising, sitting quietly, cooking, etc. All the facilities you expect from a decent hostel and more. Like hot drinks freely available, towels provided, curtains on bunk beds.

Best hostel we've ever stayed in - in terms of clean and facilities. The staff (didnt get the guys name unfortunately) on reception was lovely and helped us with parking! Kitchen had everything - free tea/coffee/hot chocolate and free milk & milk alternative. Free herbs and spices to help transfer your normal cheap pasta traveller dish. Room was nice and comfortable. Bathrooms clean and nice. Shared areas inviting.
