Every morning we got boiled onsen eggs outside our door and there were filter coffee bags and hot water in the kitchen. Miho went out of her way to help us out at every turn!

A definite top 5 for me. We got the room with a private one and it was simply so amazing to have that within seconds of your room. Also it felt like the water in the private in room onsens had much more minerals than the large one but the large one is well worth a stay too as it feels so free to be the only one there and gazing upon the mountains as you bathe.

This is my best accommodation experience in Japan over the years. They made every effort to ensure that guests understood the hotel's details and services, even though not all of the staff spoke foreign languages fluently. Comfortable rooms, breathtaking views, and a personal hot spring are highlights. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meals. A dedicated private room was available during dinner. Visit again for sure.

Kannawa Onsen, Beppu
All guest rooms in the ryokan are fitted with a flat-screen TV. The rooms are fitted with a private bathroom with free toiletries, while certain rooms will provide you with mountain views. All units will provide guests with a desk and a kettle. From the time we arrived we were welcomed greatly and was greeted by staff in our native language which took us by surprise. Apparently there are many staff versed in different languages to assist guests from around the world. I was impressed. The room was huge and the amenities were all there, it did not lack anything. I loved that they provided a rubber duck for the kids to play with in the private bath area. The view from our room was great - overlooking the steamy scenery of Beppu. I loved the private bath, we got an indoor and outdoor one, though the outdoor one is very dark at night since there were no lighting probably around the bath probably to protect privacy. The food served for breakfast and dinner were decent. We liked the teppanyaki dinner and the kids meals were delicious.

Within walking distance to the Jigoku Meguri tour and the infamous Hyotan Onsen. There’s a lift for upper floors and it even has a kitchenette. The tatami floor is very nice. The futon is comfortable. It was a short stay but it was nice. My room even has a balcony. Retro bathroom with no bidet.
Very spacious room with private onsen. Suitable for families as they have double bed and tatami area for futons setup. Separate toilet and bath, and even changing area attached to the private onsen, which feels like going to a sento. Onsen facing a small private garden, which will be nice if it wasnt too cold to soak.
The place is a great value for the money. It exceeded our expectations. Rooms with foutons were very clean, warm and well designed. You will have all the checklist of a good ryokan here: several onsens (even outside one), yukatas, kaiseki. And even more: tea table with all the things you need, private toilet and wash basin, good internet. Host was very nice and welcome. Definitely would recommend this place.
Lovely ryokan about a 10 minute walk from the JR Yufuin station. Large comfortable tatami rooms with a view of Mt Yufu. Amazing public onsen (outdoor-indoor) adorned with rocks and a private onsen for families and couples - no reservation needed. Included breakfast. Nice proprietors.
The hotel has an onsen, which is nice (though way too hot). The hotel had not only tv, but also a remote to access Netflix and such. The tatami+futon is a nice original touch.
The lady was extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. The private onsen which can be booked out for 30 mins is amazing! You get the onsen experience in private which many people are afraid of public onsens. The room was very traditional with tatami mats and futon. It was super comfortable and didnt have any problems getting to sleep. Overall I would suggest ANYONE who is visiting the Beppu area to stay here. I will be staying again! 🙏
We had the room with private onsen and it was absolutely worth it. The futon beds were really comfortable. It was very affordable and high quality ryokan. Walkable distance from the train station. Tasty breakfast.
The room was lovely, especially the onsen bath in the room. It is hot but you can cool it down easily with a tap on the wall. Beautiful garden view at mealtimes and from the onsen. Food was excellent although even more adventurous than other Ryokan we have stayed in so prob not good for fussy eaters. Nice to have normal mattress rather than futon - much more comfortable. Plenty of plug and usb sockets. Able to get there from the Beppudaiku station on foot. Can also get buses nearby to visit the hells.
Genuine family run ryokan. Wonderful hosts. 2 outside and 2 inside onsen, all private. Great dinner served in your room with breakfast in the dining room. Shuttle to local train station available. Cater for foreign visitors with larger size footwear, extra layer of mattresses on tatami floors, explanation of how to use the facilities of the ryokan via video with English subtitles on TV info channel in your room. Set in a quiet village, great place to chill in the countryside. Communicate well in basic English. All set in a delightful building.
A cosy ryokan style hotel, there was a Japanese tatami mat room and a western style room. There are three onsen. Two lovely inside private onsen that you reserve by flipping the sign on the door. There’s also one great outside onsen that allows men and women at separate times. Easy walk to the main parts of Yufuin. We were able to park our car there and walk around the town before check in. The owner was really lovely and welcoming and she even took a picture for us before we left.
