Some have an equipped kitchenette and a balcony. The suites are located in the original mansion, while the studios are situated in the modern annex. This is a beautiful place, combining the elegant restoration of an old villa with well designed new build (architect not known) set in the villa’s grounds, all developed possibly 10 - 15 years. The setting in the well maintained landscaped gardens and courtyard of the villa, is exceptional. We stayed in the villa on the upper floor which affords great views over the port and the city of Funchal. The fairly easy walk into town was enjoyable, taxi home because of the steep streets back up. Breakfast in the gardens was a delight. The staff are wonderfully kind and hospitable and seem to appreciate working here. I’d say that Madeira has a perfect climate in summer … no more than 24° in the afternoon and maybe 16° at night and the quality of light is as uplifting as you can find anywhere. As my mother (who lived on Tenerife) used to say - ‘always wear a hat’. As seems characteristic of these Atlantic islands, the residential suburbs - such as where Arts In is located - suffer at night from dogs barking. Like the sub-tropical vegetation, it’s the way things are around here.

Casal da Penha Apartments offers accommodation within 600 metres of the centre of Funchal, with free WiFi, and a kitchenette with a microwave, a toaster and a fridge. This recently renovated apartment is located 1.8 km from Almirante Reis Beach and 2 km from Gorgulho - Gavinas Beach. The rooms come with a balcony. The apartment is very comfortable. I was staying in room 301, it has the most gorgeous sea/mountain/city view. My personal recommendation. This room fits the best for 1-2 persons. Everything was very clean. The manager Maikel was always in contact to resolve any question. The apartment has a restaurant on the first floor, so there is place where you always can order a food. And there are also a lot of restaurants nearby. Also this apartment is not close to the road, so it’s quiet silent place. Definitely great place to stay!

Isabel is very kind and helpful. Beautiful farming area with lots of hiking trails nearby, but also a short drive to the amazing ocean baths in town.

The location is a few minutes away from the center. In the apartment you can find everything you need and there is a lot of space. The host is very friendly and helped me with everything I wanted to know and needed. I totally recommend it with all my heart. There is no private parking but you can let the car on the streets (there are some rules, here I asked the host and I received all the information I needed) or there is a parking place close to the apartment (4.5 euro per day).
