Guesthouse SHIGI is located in Nakatsugawa, 46 km from Gero Station, 24 km from Ōi, as well as 24 km from Enakyo Wonderland. (For the record I speak a little of jaoanese) I had to stop one night here because Nagano was too far from Nagiso. But in the end I am glad I did. Sakashita is NOT a tourist town, there are no konbini, and likely there wont be a lot of english around. However, what lacks in english makes up in friendly rural Japan vibes <3 Had to do laundry and get dinner and Ashi-san helped me through both of those matters. I had some beer and okonomiyaki in a local restaurant where evdrbody was having a great time watching a baseball match, had a great meal and chatted up with the super friendly locals. The traditional garden was amazing to put some shakuhachi vibes in the background and let yourself drift in time.

Offering quiet street views and a shared lounge, Guest House Motomiya is set in the Magome district of Nakatsugawa, 20 km from Enakyo Wonderland and 40 km from Japan Taisho Village. A spacious and beautifully decorated Japanese-style room.  Meals at the level of Michelin stars.  The food is delicious to the mouth and to the eyes as well.  A welcoming hostess.  Breathtaking view.  What else does a person need to have fun?  We really enjoyed staying here.

Offering mountain views, Guesthouse Nedoko is an accommodation situated in Nakatsugawa, 21 km from Ōi and 21 km from Enakyo Wonderland. The location is perfect! Magome is very special and it felt very unique sleeping here and being there at night with no tourists. The design of the hotel is also very nice. Everything worked perfectly and the staff was very kind and helped us with dinner reservations and with local recommendations. The Nakansendo trail to Tsumago was a highlight of our trip and I totally recommend spending a night/s here to do it :)

Offering a garden and inner courtyard view, Guesthouse Gifu SUAI is situated in Gifu, 29 km from Nagoya Castle and 30 km from Nagoya Station. Really great hosts. Cute animals too :) -Sandro

Offering a sun terrace and views of the garden, Tajimi Guest House is set in the middle of nature, 3 km from Tajimi Station. It’s a quiet location, which is nice. First time in years that I have slept without earplugs. Good to know: you can not bathe at the guesthouse. I was a bit scared of using the Onsen at first, but ended up loving it. The hosts are such nice people. They made my stay even better, thank you so much.

Located in 15-minute bus ride from JR Takayama Station, Guest House & Cafe SOY is surrounded by lush greenery. Free WIFi is provided and free private parking is available on site. We were treated each morning to an absolutely superb breakfast, and Tai was an extremely welcoming host. The place was wonderfully quiet and peaceful. We would stay there again in a heartbeat. Many thanks to Tai for making our stay so comfortable and memorable. Legend.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. Exceptional - the location is stunning, the owners so warm and friendly, the dinner was truly an experience - the paired wines really elevated the experience. The decor has been carefully thought out. The onsen was really enjoyable. Probably one of the best meals/experiences I have had. The owners and staff deserve real credit for how much attention to detail, creativity, love and perfection they have put into this place. 10/10 experience, we hope to come back!!!

Just a 2-minute walk from JR Takayama Train Station and Takayama Nohi Bus Center, Guesthouse Tomaru offers an renovated 80-year old Japanese-style accommodation. Vi ble godt tatt imot ved ankomst og fikk god informasjon om byen. Det lå praktisk til nært stasjonen og gamlebyen, så vi trengte ikke gå langt. Sengene var komfortable.

A 6-minute walk from JR Takayama Train Station, 力車イン Rickshaw inn offers non-smoking Japanese rooms and Western rooms with free Wi-Fi, an LCD TV and a private bathroom. A free-use kitchen is on site. This liitle inn has characters. The amenities, cleanliness and location are excellent.

Attractively set in the centre of Takayama, ROMANSTAY offers a balcony, air conditioning, free WiFi and flat-screen TV. The apartment was very clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. We stayed for one night during the Takayama festival as a couple but it can accommodate more guests. The open-air bath was fun and easy to use with privacy.
