Although a town of fairly humble origins (agglomerated villages) it has a UNESCO world heritage site : the Four Lifts. I recommend cycling along the canal and admiring them. When following the canal, there is also, at Thieu, a magnificent view on the new Lift (which is gargantuan). We arrived at La Louviere late at night and after a terrible journey. The welcome we got was just what was needed - big smiles with the staff friendly and welcoming. We had booked a family room which was spacious, clean and the beds were super comfy. Breakfast was good, with good selection. This was a quick overnight stay for an onward journey so location with easy access to the motorway was perfect. Would definitely stay again.

Having a restaurant next door with great meal selection enhances the overall experience. The walking distance to one of the tallest boat lifts in Europe is a unique bonus. It's undoubtedly my favorite place to stay when visiting the area.
