Also the location is great, close to the beach and they have restaurant downstairs, with great food for great price (with vegan options, which we loved).

Exceptional, situated in a tropical garden in the grounds of a private gated estate.
A short walk to a quiet beach perfect for swimming and surfing.
The in-house cuisine was excellent with fresh seafood and meat with the crunchiest freshest vegetables I’ve ever eaten. 10/10.
Each night they had live music which was a massive bonus. The music wasn’t loud and in your face, more a perfect in harmony with the environment and the guests.
One last thing is the guests, a really interesting eclectic mix of people with a really friendly and interesting outlook.

The design was perfect. The owners are very nice people, really had a good time with them. Gardens are great. It was soooo clean we could not believe it. Super relaxing time even though we were working it seemed like a vacation.

Playa grande was such a relaxing place.
Playa grande was such a relaxing place. The beach sunsets were amazing! Took an estuary tour with Luis right off the beach - private tour for 2 was only $70 and we saw crocodiles, monkeys and amazing birds. Tamarindo is a fun day trip (taking the water taxi, or asking to be dropped off there after the boat tour). There is a cool food truck court at the end and behind the beach that has an iguana walking about. Tamarindo was nice if you like lots of people and lots of bar and food choices but playa grande was so much more chill of a spot. Loved it and will be back! Cantarana cafe had the best coffee and almond croissants and dinner upstairs was really good. Servers for breakfast and dinner were fabulous! The Tortuga was a great spot - with the most delicious fish bites I’ve ever had! Cafe Mar Azul was so much fun- Sunday night entertainment needs a reservation. Such a good price for amazing fish dinners.

Playa Grande is perfect for running or walking on the beach, however not for swimming, snorkeling or floating. On the other side of Playa Grande (crossing the river) there is Tamarindo, a crazy town full of tourists with its own long beach. If you are looking for a laid back place, Tamarindo is NOT where you want to be. Lots of traffic and tons of people walking in the streets and hanging around. Can't imagine what is like in high season. Stores have beautiful clothes but they are pretty expensive. Definitely a surfing town, everyone walks with a board under their arm...lol.

Location, beautiful beach , facilities and great bed !
Location, beautiful beach , facilities and great bed !
Lovely responsive employees!
Restaurant next door offered excellent food .
Not sure why everything had to be paid in cash eg car rides, trips etc . That was inconvenient.
One has to have cash on hand as most business was done that way. However we were told only in “ low” season.
The location was small and intimate and easy to access by foot. A car wasn’t always needed.

Beautiful beach line. Great for surfing and boogie boarding.
Beautiful beach line. Great for surfing and boogie boarding. Trees at the beach provide plenty of shade. Long and picturesque shore line is excellent to walk in the morning or at dawn hours. Amazing sunsets.

Nice quiet area.
Nice quiet area. A limited but good selection of eating places nearby. the beach is great for walking, swimming or riding a bike. It does not have shade trees on the beach. Lots of different birds.
Go to Hotel El Manglar to book mangrove estuary boat tour. it is very good. Playa Grande is much quieter than Tamarindo but it is about 40 minute drive if you want to go to Tamarindo.

I liked the area, which is a very long beach near the national park. Note that access can be limited, as it is a very bumpy and unpaved road from the national park entrance to the villas at the end of the peninsula towards Tamarindo.
Beach was fine enough to walk in - lots of shells and surfers. Water wasn't cold, but wasn't totally warm either, comfortable temperature to walk.
If you walk down to the end of the peninsula, water taxis that are only $2 will take you over to Tamarindo, so in the end it's nice to be a bit secluded away from the action, yet still have access to shopping and entertainment if you need it. Just wave to the guys at the other end!
Great vibe, staff is amazing, incredibly friendly and hard working. Kudos to Rene, Alonso and Esteban for their great service!
Very comfortable rooms. We stayed in this same property long time ago, prior it becoming the ONDA, which was very deteriorated, so we were very pleased and surprised with how great and beautiful this place is now. The location is great to walk to the beach and besides the hotel's restaurant, there are a couple of other very close that offer a good variety of food options.
It was the first time experiencing a place like this, and it was a very nice experience! The location is very close to restaurants and Playa Grande, although it is true, the entrance is sandy so it is recommended to be careful. But the place was very quiet, the gampling comfortable and with what we needed. The breakfast is totally worth it. There was a cat, and we are a fan of them, so it was very nice to see.
And it should be noted that we forgot a hat and Antoine reminded us, he was very kind.
Had a fantastic stay in Playa Grande. The beach was amazing and it was much better than staying in town in tamarindo (more wildlife and more secluded, but still with plenty of restaurants and things to do). Dawn and her team were extremely welcoming, we also loved staying in the bungalow as it had its own balcony (which other rooms didn't).
Although having a car is easier, it's completely fine to stay here without one, relying on a bus to tamarindo and a taxi / boat from there.
The place is modern and new. The WiFi is really really fast and reliable, there was a desk in the room which allowed productive work and meetings. The room was clean.
The staff was very nice and friendly. The food at the restaurant was good although a bit high price-wise (maybe have for hotel guests a discount or something so that I as a guest staying here have some motivation to consume here?).
The room was clean and spacious. The food in the restaurant was fantastic. They make the best pizzas. There are some really nice seating areas and a great pool! Great location literally 2 minutes from the beach. The staff were friendly and accommodating and a big shout out to Luis who helped me with my excursions! Great hotel for surfers who want to ride the waves on the pacific coast
Location of the hotel, the few rooms, and cozy ambiance was very good. I feel the relationship between price and service/hotel is excellent. Cleanliness of the room was very good and service from the staff was great.
Wi-fi was good. I worked one day an the internet managed all basic calls with cameras and files downloads.
Super helpful and friendly staff, amazing location, great beach nearby, good shower but facilities such as a.c. unit leaking and small ants all over the table in the room without anything being left out let it down. For the price paid it was a little bit disappointing.
We enjoyed the property location (close to 5 beaches) , security, views, breakfast (coffee was AWESOME). Natalia was very nice and always willing to help. The AC at the room was awesome.
Property’s location is near Parque Nacional Marino Las Baulas.
Mat and his wife Natalia are very nice, they were very helpful and we will come back for sure. Excellent accommodation in an idyllic location close to Playa Grande beach. Parking slots in front of hotel. Nice breakfast with coffee served fresh.
gorgeous big bed, clean bathroom, AC. great cafe on site and very close to Playa Grande. I took a very long bus from San Jose so arrived at midnight and checked out at 10:00, so wasn’t there long enough to give an insightful review!
This is a rare find! It has so much charm and Costa Rican authenticity! It had everything I wanted...pool, very close beach access, boogie boards, bikes, restaurant with yummy food, and a gym. Very lovely!
Nice, quiet, nice design, friendly, good to have part of a common kitchen, nice area and small beach village nearby, nice little warm pool, friendly owners. Perfect 4 days for us.
we stayed in one of the hats with shared bathrooms. It was ok for one night and it was near the beach. You can rent surfboards, there is a big selection of them
great spot with beach access ( 200ft away)
little sanctuary , peaceful and quite.
restaurant located right next door.
Highly recommend for peace of mind.
Amazing location right next to the beach, staff really friendly and lovely big and comfortable room, we felt like we were in paradise.(avoid tamarindo)
