Can't say enough good about the location, staff, vibe, facilities, and of course, the owners! We stayed 6 nights in the 3 bedroom villa as a group of friends, and then a couple of us came back for a few nights prior to leaving for Canada again. The grounds are lush and green, everyone is super friendly and eager to help with any needs/questions you may have. I personally have been in the area many times and I must say this is the best one! It is a true gem in the middle of Surfside, and we will be back in the near future!
This charming beachfront hotel is located on Playa Potrero on the scenic Pacific Coast. It offers a spa with massage and beauty treatments and an indoor and outdoor pool with hot tub.

Really pleasant stay, gorgeous location on the beach to enjoy beautiful sunsets, reception staff charming and swim up bar staff great. A few of the breakfast team sometimes looked as though they'd rather be elsewhere and a few bits of maintenance could be improved (planters half way up stairs untended, a bit of flaky paint) but generally a very nice option for a decent price

They've done a wonderful job with this property! This was our 8th accommodation on this trip to Costa Rica, and it had the best of all worlds. Quiet enough to feel remote, but connected to groceries, gas, and services in town. Fantastic A/C in the common space and both bedrooms. A thorough cleaning job, enough towels for a family of 4 (including pool towels), and a very well-equipped kitchen. The owners were so kind to accommodate early check-in so that our young daughters could get settled; they even brought them a high chair and kids' chairs, which they adored! The view from the pool is gorgeous and we appreciated the little outdoor gym, too. We watched the cleaning team wipe down outdoor railings and dust off loungers. They're clearly taking pride in keeping this place up. We would definitely stay again!

Relaxing small beach community with a residential vibe.
Relaxing small beach community with a residential vibe. I prefer Portreo as a base - more than Tamarindo. Amazing local food options, fresh 🍉 produce at the market. The Esmeralda Villas are a place where you can read, unwind and enjoy lush gardens in peace. Then we took day trips to sail, surf, zip line etc. great place if you’re not interested in night clubs. Serene, healthy nature in a small town.

Playa Potrero is the 'middle' beach between 5 local beaches...
Playa Potrero is the 'middle' beach between 5 local beaches in a row and only a few minutes of each other. Each beach is different and has different amenities available. I recommend Playa Penga for those who want a beautiful beach with few people. Playa Danta is also great but a few minutes farther away, also with few people. Potrero has nearby resorts and several nice restaurants, depending on your tastes and budget. Highly recommend the area around Potrero as you can choose the beach that suits you best!

Potrero is a gem of a small beach town. Locals are friendly, helpful and genuinely welcoming. El Castillo has amazing food and staff. Hemingway’s is a wonderful spot to watch the pelicans and sunset. The staff there is amazing as well. I will be back!

Small town feel but with everything you need within walking...
Small town feel but with everything you need within walking distance: restaurants (great food) pharmacy; bakery; grocery; liquor store; beach activity rentals; long beach for walking and couple restaurants along beach. Not touristy - felt immersed in local community. Short drive to many other beaches and restaurants and adventure activities. It’s a perfect home base.

One of my favorite places to visit in Costa Rica.
One of my favorite places to visit in Costa Rica. I'd recommend a hotel on the outskirts of the village, but transportation is a bit of an issue. Loads of construction currently taking place. I hope it doesn't destroy the laid back authenticity of the countryside/
Small quaint brand new boutique hotel. We had a wonderful experience all around. Beautiful grounds. Rooms were tastefully done. Beds comfortable
DJ the owner was friendly and was very attentive as were all the staff.
There is a restaurant with full bar on site that makes great brick oven pizza and other local fare . It gets lively at night which is fun.. The staff are great there too.
The town authentic Costa Rica. Not overrun by tourists in any sense. We felt very safe at night while walking to the area bars, restaurants and beach.
The check in as everything else is well prepared. Everything was as discribed. Even better when you are there. The kitchen has everything you need so you are totally independend if you wish. The whole hotel area/room/pool is very clean. The more beautiful beach (not the closest) is still in walking distance. Staff is kind and very helpful if needed.
Nice beds and best shower in Costa Rica ;)
Totally recommend staying here.
Playa Penca was close by and is a very nice, not so busy beach. Playa Potrero is also not far to walk to. There were a couple grocery stores and restaurants close by. The pool is only several steps from the villa's door, but there is still plenty of privacy. Many places at and around the villa to sit and relax in the shade. The villa was comfortable, quiet and provided everything that we needed.
It is within walking distance to Penca beach, which is small and less touristy and also a close walk to the bigger Potrero Beach. Location is fine. Pool of the apartment complex seemed nice, we did not use them. You should note, there are around 18 apartments in the complex, so there will be a lot of people, even though it was fully booked while we were there, it was however surprisingly quiet.
Charlotte and Daniel welcomed us in their home and made us feel very comfortable. We spent a great time exchanging about our adventures and travel stories together. The house is very modern and beautiful. We were entirely autonomous and had a private area that was super clean. The location is great, near the beach entrance and little restaurants.
The 2 pools were large and a comfortable temperature, with plenty of shallow areas. Our kids spent hours playing in them! Our room was on the small size, but adequate as a short-stay hotel room, and very private. Breakfast was wonderful, with the option of typical or continental breakfasts. The staff were all friendly and very helpful!
This sweet boutique eco-lodge was a perfect end to our travels in Costa Rica. The owners are adorable and so interested in making sure you love your stay.
The rooms were spotless and the decor simple and very inviting. We loved every aspect of the design and layout , especially the private, outdoor kitchen and sitting area.
Location was great. Right in a quiet black sand beach. The pool was lovely with a nice swim up bar. The food was also decent. Service was wonderful. We were so very impressed with the hotel for the price. The rooms were really big. As a family of five, it can be difficult to find hotels and this was wonderful
This is a little oasis from the busyness of activities on the coast of Costa Rica. It was so nice to come home to it its tranquility and calm. It was very peaceful. Pura vida personified. Walking distance to the beach and restaurants, very accessible to all the surrounding available activities. Lovely!
The hotel staff is amazing. The rooms are spacious and great for groups. We had a 2 bedroom 2 bath, with full kitchen and dining room. The grounds are beautiful. The sand is black and the water is brown. Not the hotel's fault, but one should know. The grounds are like botanical gardens.
We loved Hotel Bahia Esmeralda! The gardens, pool, and close proximity to the beach make this property ideal for families. My favorite part was enjoying coffees on the front stoop and relaxing in the hammocks. We enjoyed a spectacular sunset at nearby Playa Penca. A beautiful place.
I love how the property had a lot of privacy. The staff was not as helpful when it came to doing activities. The hotel does not offer activities, you have to do everything on your own when it comes to book activities.
Great value for the money. Got more than I expected for the price. There is a bar and restaurant on the property and lots of sodas nearby. Close to the beach and near by the towns of Flamingo, Coco and Tamarindo.
Very calm, well maintained, very good hotel manager. It was perfect for our needs. The apartment was a good size and right in front of the pool. The lush plants gave an extra sense of privacy.
Nice new apartments near Potrero and many attractions. Clean and comfortable, nice pool and common areas. Well equipped kitchen, coffee, tea and spices. Access to washing and drying machines.
The condo is pretty nice in a very good location, surrounded by nature, a big pool for afternoon. Near Playa Penca 400m, walking distance to Playa Potrero. By car to Playa Danta and Dantita.
We have rarely seen a better built house in Costa Rica. The hosts are amazingly friendly and feel like friends by the time you leave. The bed is comfy and the location is great.
Very beautiful compound that is been taken care of a lot. Nice, clean pool. A lot of places to chill and relax. Fast and reliable Internet everywhere on the compound.
