I liked the friendly people in Richmond. The shops, restaurants, and pubs were all great, and very reasonably priced. The portions in the restaurant were huge everywhere we visited. We used the local gym and spa on a day pass and the facilities were very good for the money we paid. The public transport was easy to use and cheap. The taxis were plentiful, the drivers were friendly and it was very easy to get a taxi.

We have family at Catterick and Richmond is only a few minutes drive from there. We like the Station complex with the shops & cinema, the centre of Richmond around the market place. I recommend the Green Howards museum and the Georgian theatre has a great 1 hour tour for just £8. There is the castle to visit and a nice walk around the castle to try. There are plenty of shops, little cafes, an indoor market, lots of pubs and a variety of take-aways. The market pace is cobbled and some streets away from the centre and very steep and can be hard walking for elderly.

Loved the dramatic landscape of the castle and the river valley around the town. The centre is up a slight hill but parking available in the central market square and down by the river. Some public footpaths available to walk in the countryside around the town. The town gives perhaps a good mornings wandering but with a car you can easily access the beautiful dales.

Great market town, the Saturday market held in the cobbled square was in full swing and very well attended.
Richmond is convenient for the stunning North Yorkshire Dales.
Has its own ruined castle and the beautiful river Swale runs through Richmond, lots of independent shops and the most fabulous fish and chips are to be had from the shop in the middle of the square …they are cooked in dripping and were delicious.
Lovely town to visit

Richmond is a beautiful little town , with many lovely walks , a fine Norman castle and the river Swale running through it with the Foss Water fall and riverside a nice place to picnic in spring and summer time. Richmond has many nice shops , restaurants and welcoming public houses. It’s sits at the entrance to the Yorkshire Dales with many interesting sights to visit not too far away.
What a lovely hotel. Recently refurbished to the highest quality it was an aesthetic delight to stay in. And such a beautiful period building. It was extremely hot when we stayed but the hotel found us a wonderful dyson fan that made it possible to relax: lovely. The bed was a mile wide, the shower generous with good water pressure and four - yes FOUR - different shower heads. The service was outstanding. Really 12 our of 10. I would heartily recommend the hotel.
Such a beautiful Yorkshire Dales farm and so quiet and relaxing. We were there for two days and had a lovely time. Played golf at Richmond, went to a wedding, had a super value dinner in a local pub, The Shoulder of Mutton, and thoroughly enjoyed our beautifully presented and prepared breakfasts. Freshest eggs in the country. Wonderful fruit. Best rhubarb ever! Pandered in our suite overlooking the flock of sheep with their lambs. Bliss.
Hotel like comfort in a period quaint cottage. Thoughtful touches everywhere with local decorations. Lots of info on hand. Welcome basket was very welcome indeed! The shower was very powerful and the beds comfortable. Location superb with very short walk to town (steep though) and just by the riverside with Richmond's waterfalls. Very pretty town and a pretty cottage. Great value for money. 100% would recommend.
The location of the house is great, you can walk (uphill) into Richmond, and there are plenty of places round about in Yorkshire to visit. We were 3 couples and really liked having 3 double bedrooms each with its own bathroom - in fact there is a surfeit of bathrooms, two more in addition to the 3 ensuites! The lounge area and dining table were both comfortable to hang out in.
Great location for exploring North Yorkshire. Lovely large bedrooms and bathroom perfect for our family of 5. Small but fully equipped kitchen with everything you need. Comfortable and cosy lounge diner. Very pretty street and an easy (uphill) walk into Richmond. Plenty of on street parking. We had a fun Halloween weekend and found the property good value for what we paid.
Easy check in, though no one on site at night. Quiet room at back, though maybe slightly noisy at front as it’s on the main road. Excellent breakfast and nice bar- food available some evenings, however slightly on the pricey side. All staff very nice, the hotel is close to Richmond centre with a variety of pubs and restaurants. It’s also next door to the Georgian theatre.
Lovely breakfast.
Room looked dated on arrival but had absolutely everything we needed and was very clean. Beds comfy. Staff extremely helpful and accommodating. Would definately stay here again. Parking was an issue but this is the same all over Richmond and not the fault of the accommodation.
The cottage was really cosy and in a great location - it had everything we needed for our weekend in Yorkshire! Also really appreciated the offer to set one of the bedroom up as a twin (which was helpful as we were a group of friends staying)
Location was perfect. Lovely clean comfortable room. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of choices and well cooked. Hosts welcoming. Would definetly choose to stay here again if in Richmond.
Just about everything.A brilliant short break for us The Black Lion Richmond is a truly delightful hotel, completely relaxing but extremely efficient organisation with an excellent staff
This is a beautiful place and we'll situated in Richmond. The staff were lovely, especially Melissa who was so helpful and chatty. The breakfast was outstanding - really excellent 👍👍
The room was great, the food tasty and the staff very friendly. This is a very honest hotel. It doesn't promise the world and then fail to deliver. I would definately stay again.
