A Charming Crossroads of Civilisations
Situated on the west part of Crete, the city of Chania is the second largest in this beautiful Greek island. Featuring rich history, breathtaking architecture and pristine beaches, Chania will take you to a fascinating journey through time.
Get your camera and wander around the narrow alleys of the old town or walk on the romantic promenade area of the old harbour with the iconic lighthouse. Set on a small hill, the central part of the town is called Kastelli and is populated since the Neolithic period.
A crossroads of civilisations, the city of Chania offers a harmonic combination of Venetian, Turkish and traditional Greek architecture. Do not miss the Greek Orthodox Cathedral Church of Chania, the Mosque of the Janissaries and the Venetian Fortification Walls.
The vibrant area of the new and old town has local taverns serving delicious regional specialties and tsikoudia. If you are lucky you might hear a Cretan mantinada, an improvised folk song about the everyday life.
Located on the Akrotiri Peninsula, the Chania International Airport is about 17 km from the city centre and offers year-round and seasonal flights to London, Brussels, Athens and Thessaloniki. Booking.com will help you find the right hotel, guest house or apartment in Chania.
Stunning place, wonderful people and delicious food.
Stunning place, wonderful people and delicious food. Nea Chora beach is fantastic and there are many restaurants and cafés to choose from. I love to go before and after the high season. Easy to rent a car and drive around, the driving experience was fantastic, good roads and signals. People drive sensibly and there is free parking all over the island with no tolls at all.

The old town is lovely full of independent stores selling leather goods, clothes etc. Eat at one of the restaurants overlooking the port and lighthouse for fantastic views. Loved the backdrop of the snow covered mountains while basking in the 26 degrees sun despite it still being March.

We loved the Venetian port and the Old Town.
We loved the Venetian port and the Old Town. One of our favourite places was a restaurant called Paradisiaco in the upper part of the port on Theotokopoulou Street. It is a very interesting neighbourhood. A beautiful art shop with a friendly owner is in the same area. Another good restaurant is Maridaki in Maridaki Steet.

Its a quiet, mountainside/seaside town with amazing food.
Its a quiet, mountainside/seaside town with amazing food. I dont think I had one bad meal there. The beaches are amazing and the water is a crystal clear green/blue. I'm sure there are lots of activities and things to do involving hiking and snorkeling. If you're looking for lots of shopping from big retail, I dont think this is the place for you. A lot of the shops are local businesses.

A very good place as a base for the western part of the island. When visiting the eastern or central part, it is better to move around. However, the western part is famous for its greatest attractions.

This was our third stay in Chania as we love it so much.
This was our third stay in Chania as we love it so much. It is clean and well-kept, with a pretty harbour and large selection of bars and restaurants. We always visit in April or October when it’s buzzing but not too overcrowded.
The prices are very reasonable, especially in the Kuom Kapi area.
We discovered Amphora taverna in the Venetian harbour this visit, and although you pay harbour front (slightly higher) prices, the portions were huge and excellent value for money, and the service was excellent.
The host Manoli was very welcoming and knowledgeable, he knows almost everything around Chania (and probably anywhere in Crete). He shared stories of the past and recent histories of Crete and left me with more in depth understanding of the Island. The location of the hotel is less than 100m from the water front, in a busy street filled with nice boutique shops and decent restaurants, but the room is facing the back of the street with a very nice balcony so you get nice and quiet sleep at night.
I will never forget this hotel. Lovely staff, beautiful room view (I had the room with the terrace), excellent wifi, best location right in the center. The staff helped me organize two amazing days in Crete. It was a very special place and I wished I stayed another night. I was working remotely too and while that is not the best option in Chania, this hotel was a really good place to do that. The staff also had excellent restaurant and food recommendations. They were very warm and helpful.
Beautifully designed little boutique hotel on a picturesque street in the old town of Chania. Nikos, the host was truly the loveliest we have encountered out of many on our travels around Crete. He gave us advice on the best breakfasts and coffees and was over and above helpful with our bags and taxi bookings. we have stayed in many lovely place in Chania over the years but this one is our favourite now as it just ticks all the boxes.
We were in Crete for 10 days from the 15th june. The location was perfect. We were in the heart of Chania old town overlooking a beautiful square. The room was spacious with a hot shower and a comfortable double bed. Nikolas couldn't do enough for us and everything he recommended to do, we did and wasn't disappointed. We will be back for sure. Samaria hotel was in a good position and only a few minutes walk to cafes , shopping, restaurants etc. A comfortable hotel with friendly , helpful staff. The breakfast was extremely good and one of the best we had anywhere in Greece. Homemade cakes , pastries , beautiful fruits , nuts , seeds , eggs ,smoothies ( a really fantastic breakfast selection!)
We took the 2 bedroom hotel apartment that has a kitchen and two showers. super clean, lots of light and quiet ally within the old town. The staff was very friendly and anything needed, they were there. Breakfast is 2m walk to another hotel in old Town and it was very tasty and the staff was super friendly. It was just perfect!
The location is excellent, a comfortable 5 minute walk to reach Old Town with all of the restaurants and shops. And a very short walk to reach an excellent bakery /coffee shop and a fruit and vegetables shop. This was my first visit to Crete and the staff was always very helpful and supportive for information and directions.
Rena has created a beautiful living space with cactus gardens and lovely outdoor seating areas. Everything is clean and there is so much room for a family of 4. We loved being able to walk to the best beach in Crete (Stavros) and eat at local tavernas. She had some wine and even cake waiting for us for our anniversary!
super central location inside the old town and 50 meters from the port. Nasos is the best host ever, super kind, helpful and with lot of suggestions for your trip. he also gave us typical products as a present. I’ll recommend him to all my friends traveling tu Crete.
This apartment was really really cosy and clean. And tiny little private garden was big and relaxing with own walls.
Sea was near and old town also.
Owners were really nice, caring and helpful couple .
So we had absolutely great time in Crete 🇬🇷🧘🏖🥂
The location in Old Town Chania was great. The room was fairly spacious with a separate living room, but no door between them. The buffet breakfast was decent, but it turned out to be the smallest selection of any of the 5 hotels we visited in Greece.
The wonderful location in charming old chania town
The warnhearted host and crew are really impressive
Thanks for the surprising fruits and bread for free and we can take on the car to the beautiful beaches in west Crete !
Excellent location, a clean and comfortable hotel. But most of all the owner,Giorgios, is a very helpful and nice person. He really tried his best to make our stay in Chania and in Crete perfect.
Very modest hotel. It is clean and quiet, but other than that it has nothing that makes it shine. Next time in Crete I would definitely try to find another location/hotel.
Located on a walking street in old town, a few meters away from the harbour. Many restaurants at your doorstep. Hotel has just 3 rooms. Complimentary coffee and tea.
perfect hotel, everything felt new and fresh, many sunbeds and a good pool to cool off in. this was the best of 4 hotels we visited in our time in crete.
Great location close to Chania Airport. Perfect place to start a holiday in Crete. A wonderful family hotel with the most welcoming and friendly hosts.
