La Chacra de Joel Hotel, hotel in Huehuetenango

Offering a restaurant, La Chacra de Joel Hotel is located in Huehuetenango. This colonial-style hotel has beautiful gardens.

Our room was comfortable, and the staff and facilities were very nice. The rooms do not have AC, but the climate in Huehue is such that they are typically NOT needed. The hotel is some distance from the road, so there is no street noise.

It felt safe staying at the place. It is quiet except those roosters and dogs making noises which was find. We liked the size of the place. The WiFi works great. The hot shower ran very well. Our host responds efficiently.

We were needy and confused. We are champions as we leave, thanks to Ronnie and his oasis of peace. Sad champions, we wanted to stay longer.

Lots of wonderful places to discover.

Lots of wonderful places to discover. We visit Chiantla, Los Cuchumatanes, Laguna Magdalena, Cenotes Candelaria and Río Lagartero. Everything is beautiful but, i have to say it, full with garbage. We spent some time picking the garbage up, but it is impossible to clean. It is so sad local people don´t take care of the nature wonders they have. Mirador Dieguez Olaverri was totally dirty and somebody (south American company - I heard) put a horrible electrical tower at that iconic place.

Very typical Guatemalan city, noise, diesel, and motorcycles everywhere. Plaza was great. Things to do and see,(Zaculeu and El Mirador are must sees). People were friendly and helpful. Walking the city was not a problem, but mobility a must. We ate local and at a bigger, more established restaurant. Both ewere great.

As an American, I went to a boarding school 45 years ago.

As an American, I went to a boarding school 45 years ago. I had not been back since. It has changed a lot (much bigger), but of all the places I traveled to, it was the most “normal” of them. It is not a tourist hot spot, but there are some MUST see things nearby. We did feel safe walking the town even after dark, although we used prudence. The Zakuleo ruins are worth a visit, but the highlight of my trip to Guatemala was going to Laguna de Magdalena. Way up in the mountains, it was a long very bumpy dirt road. Very slow going. Do not recommend going if it is raining (only because of the road), unless you have a truck. But the lagoon was totally surreal. One of the most magical places I have ever been.
