Volterra is a nice hilltop town with a few churches and museums. The shopkeepers are friendly and they have some lovely artisan products. There is a large outdoor market on Fridays when the whole place has a wonderful atmosphere. The alabaster sculpture are stunning and unusual. The villa was a wonderful place to stay! The building was built in the 15th century but has all the modern amenities. Our host/owner Luca was so accommodating in every way. His staff prepared a delicious breakfast each morning with many varieties of local cuisine. He had even prepared a map and detailed itinerary for several day trips if we wanted to explore the surrounding towns and other sights. Volterra is a beautiful historic town and walking around the narrow streets feels like stepping back several centuries in time. Walking around the traffic free central area was a pleasure. We visited several historic buildings including the beautiful cathedral. Also some excellent museums with great collections and works of art. Amazing pool overlooking green hills of Tuscany! Willa is perfectly located in a close proximity to San Gimigiano and Volterra, also perfect as a starting point to further situated cities like Siena, Montepulciano or Pisa. Location is just amazing, in the dead center of Volterra, just a short walk anywhere in town. The room was large and comfy, and breakfast is just delicious. Staff is always smiling and ready to help. I particularly like that they have a room that you can safely leave your stuff if you check out early, and pick up when you leave town. The apartment we stayed in was very nice with a small kitchenette and shaded outside seating as well. There is parking at the location. It is very well situated to explore Volterra and the surrounding area or just to spend a day or two chilling in the garden or at the pool.
