It is a beautiful fishing/tourist town with super friendly people and access to amazing beaches, restaurants, and hotels. But do not expect all-inclusive—more like hippy vibes (great). It is a great escape from winter in December-February—_ always_ sunny (in March, it was a bit hot, so it was better to be in the shade between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.).

Cute little fishing village.
Cute little fishing village. Much different than Bahia Santa Cruz area. Not as clean but also not as overwhelmingly touristy in design. But not a lot to do here. Can for 100 pesos taxi ride or collectivo truck ride for cheaper to visit Playa Zipilote about 3.5 km up highway 175.
Nearby Playa Estacahuite disappointing for snorkeling during our visit. Rated highly for snorkeling and clearly has corral it was not healthy. One can rent life jackets and snorkel equipment and there are about 4 of the obligatory beach restaurants. Good shade at the north end of the beach against a small cliff.

Beautiful hotel, lovely staff, and tasty breakfast, but a super snoozy town and most things are closed by like 6pm. It’s even hard to grab food at the hotel after 4pm. Once the sun goes down it’s difficult to walk down the bumpy road to reach further food. Food till later and a bar would make this hotel worth the trip again.

Puerto Angel has lovely beaches, but too many unpaved streets deeply rutted by the recent hurricane. There are too many one-lane streets. Shopping is limited. Cell phone service is spotty despite the TelCel tower atop the hill by the Universidad del Mar.

The main beach in Puerto Angel is a working beach so it is not as pristine clean as a specially built resort beach so may not be for everyone. It is interesting to sit and watch the daily life of the fishermen there.
Pantheon beach is a quiet bay with about 5 restaurants serving breakfast and lunch. There are a couple of small stores near the beach and there are more options in the main town. It is about a 15 minute walk from the main town to Pantheon beach, either along the highway or along the paved walkway from the beach around the rocks. I recommend staying near Pantheon beach and walking to the main town / beach if you need or want to.
It is mainly national tourists who visit this area. There is a van service daily to Oaxaca via San Jose del Pacifico - Lineas Unidas (around 4 or 5 departures x day from around 4:30 am o 11:)0pm) taking 6 1/2 hours and cost $270 May 2021. The LU office is right across from the baskeball courts near Hotel Soraya.
The town is about 30 minutes from Pochutla - colectivo taxis / vans cost around $25 - $30 and a private taxi around $100.
The view is AMAZING. I have a million photos of it on my phone now. The hotel is absolutely stunning, set up on a hill to overlook the entire bay. The hotel has such unique and artistic architecture it made staying here even better. The photos on the website do not do this place justice. 100x better in real life. The staff was also SO SO nice and helpful. They attended to our every need. We felt spoiled!! We loved making day trips to nearby hot spots like zipolite or mazunte, but enjoyed being further away in the tranquil spot of puerto angel.
Simply everything!
The owners are super nice, chill, helpful and make the best hot cakes ever!!
We loved our stay there and were super satisfied. The staff is always friendly and trying to help you in any way possible we would come back definitely :)
Its 5-10min walk to Puerto Angels centro so everything is within a walking distance.
The wifi is one of the bests we had on the west coast of Mexico :)
Karina the manager is wonderful hospitable, helpful & friendly. Breakfast is lovely on the terrace. Other travellers friendly. Location is great to get down to the very charming Pantheon beach & The guest house is pretty reasonable for being right in the centre of Puerto Angel. En balance Charming guest house built up over 35 years & you can forgive foibles for the service is great.
Location was great, short walk to Estacahuite Beach. Also walk to Puerto Angel or take a cab. Stores in Puerto Angel were adequate for food, etc. and lots of fresh fruit/vegetable markets. Short cab rides to Zipolite, San Augustinillo, Mazunte.
View from the house was spectacular, saw lots of whales.
Bluetooth speakers on patio were nice.
Our room overlooked the bay and beaches. Very clean, came with a hammock and a jacuzzi tub on the balcony.
We are vegetarian, the chef happily customized the included breakfast for us which was nice.
If we needed anything, front desk was able to get it to us pretty quick, taxis, towels, water, recommendations.
Thanks so much!
The location - the beach is stunning.
The sense of seclusion - there are no other hotels and you feel like you have the beach to yourself.
The room - large room with a big balcony overlooking the beach.
The facilities - there are large beds, hammocks, and comfortable chairs.
The food was pretty good too!
Charming independent hotel just across from playa panteon. There are lovely garden and terrace areas, some rooms have a sea view. The AC worked well and there was hot water. This is not a fancy stay but you feel like you have gone back in time to a kinder gentler world. Staff is exceptional. Beds are comfy.
I loved this old slightly crumbling colonial style hotel. My room was amazing, huge, overhead fans, large balcony, huge bathroom... Staff very nice. The rooms vary a lot, so ask to see a couple if you don't like the first one you see.
this place is amazing. you won’t want to go anywhere after you arrive. the staff is fantastic and the beach is pristine. Kayaks and snorkeling gear is free to use as you like, just grab and go. we had such a great time here!
The hotel staff were amazing! Thank you Paola, Luisa, Sam & Lidia for making my stay great!
Hotel restaurant has not been built yet but there were plenty of options within close walking distance.
Desk staff really helpful, friendly family relaxed atmosphere in hotel.rooms cleaned very well each day. Spacious rooms simple but nice. Lovely beach on the doorstep
The view amazing. There was a pool which helps as the beach was a walk and although a good walk 👍and in the shade however the hill walk was challenging.
