Truly beautiful place with the best hosts you could possibly ask for. Amazing location right along the river with several hikes accessible directly from the place and yet still walkable or short moto-taxi to town. Breakfasts and dinners were delicious and the beer brewed on-site was the best beer you will find in this area.

It’s a wonderful town very close to the lakes and famous mountains of the area, people are nice and if you fight a bit for lower prices is quite cheap (because in Perú you learn too late that if you’re a tourist everyone tries to charge you more for everything) besides that small detail which is something that happens in the whole country and not only in Caraz it was a wonderful place to visit.
I highly recommend the Parón lagoon (you can walk right next to that one and after an hour or so you get to another lagoon with the paramount pictures mountain) and the 69 lagoon, is hard to get there but it’s worth the pain.

Caraz is much quieter than Huaraz and recommended if you want that smalltown feel. Los Pinos lodge had great gardens and there are other places which seem to have more space than equivalent accommodation in Huaraz. However, it is slightly harder to organise tours and activities from Caraz so check in advance with whoever you're organising stuff with.

Caraz is a relaxed small town.
Caraz is a relaxed small town. The square is nice, the streets are easy to navigate, and the market is great. You can walk everywhere or take a cheap mototaxi. Its a bit lower than Huaraz,, so its a nice option if coming from sea level and you are looking to acclimatize. Its a good jumping off spot for Paron and some of the other popular treks.
