Publikaus certainly is a hidden gem in Samal Island.
It's is located very central, a 5 min walk from the ferry terminal only, nonetheless very rural and scenic, in the middle of nature, surrounded by trees, plants and a bunch of chicken.
Lalaine and Nina's friendliness and hospitality is second to none. They stayed in touch with me throughout my stay, helped me organize different activities, and accompanied me back to the ferry.
My room was clean, with air con and fan.
It is very convenient that Lalaine and Nina offer motorcycle rental, so you don't have to bother finding a place.
I got a delicious Samal Pomelo on my breakfast table as a small welcome gift.
The place is highly recommended!
Located on Samal Island, Hof Gorei Resort features traditional bungalow accommodation. It has an outdoor pool, surrounded by tropical gardens with panoramic views of the Davao Gulf and Mount Apo.

While the location and site were picturesque it was also very remote, isolated and difficult to get to. The staff were friendly and obliging and the food presented by the chef was fresh, tasty and of good quality. The jungle like gardens were well maintained and attractive but paths and stairways somewhat dangerous and treacherous. Where it failed to deliver was the rooms and facilities attached to them being run down and weathered. The air-conditioning was adequate but ceiling fans would be a welcome addition. Activities were limited and possibly better suited to young and more adventurous people. The pool and setting was quite good but most of the bar facilities were past their use by date. Being relatively vacant made for little to know atmosphere or vibe and might be better suited to large group to make cost effective and guarantee a more vibrant atmosphere.
