We really only walked to old town one day as we spent a lot of time in the hotel and in the hotel spa. However, in one day we in the village we had great street food, took a tram up the mountain, took a vintage train ride, went for a long walk, and we loved our hotel Volando Urai. We didn't get a chance to go to the indigenous museum which looked great. We will visit Wulai again!

Wulai is such a fun, quaint town.

Wulai is such a fun, quaint town. It was a peaceful get-away for our family, but also had activities nearby that our kids could enjoy as a family. The Yun-hsien was one of our kids favorite areas to visit. We took the small trains up to the gondola, and took the gondola the rest of the way. It is not handicap accessible, and there are many stairs to climb at the end, if you have troubles with climbing. YuN-hsien itself had quite a few attractions that were closed, but I think there was enough for it to still be an enjoyable time. We enjoyed the scenery of Wulai, the laid back feel and trying the local food. If you are looking for a relaxing spot to get away to enjoy nature and rest, I would highly recommend Wulai.

Wulai is a fantastic break from Taipei.

Wulai is a fantastic break from Taipei. There are a lot of places to eat andI mostly just sampled street food. The hot springs are the main draw so go for the views and stay in one of the resorts. Please note that many resorts are up a winding hill. Walk through Wulai Old Street until you find concrete stairs then follow those up. It’s either the stairs or a long, steep walk following the road. Take some time to check out the Atayal museum as it is very interesting (and free). I hope to go again next time I’m in Taiwan.

Loved the fresh mountain vegetable stir fry!

Loved the fresh mountain vegetable stir fry! I came primarily to bird and enjoyed seeing quite a few bird species (and two species of monkey) but also enjoyed the scenery and would have loved to have had more time to explore different trails. and swim. Most people were friendly and I was fortunate to come on a day that was not a holiday or weekend-- it would have been crowded! The town is very charming and for those who love nature, there is much to explore.

Our stay was wonderful! We had a large room that very much reminded us of a Thai villa. The room had a huge double hot spring bath with an additional shower area - all of which had a beautiful view of the river and treeline. We were welcomed by very friendly staff who also served us a large breakfast the next morning. Breakfast is a mix of Taiwanese and western styles and was very good. Particularly impressed with free-flow coffee! The breakfast area we choose was outside by the river and that made it quite special.

Location is great with few minutes walk from bus stop and to old street town. Love the room with the tent and little decorations on the wall. All the snacks and drinks in the room (including inside the fridge) are free to consume. Soak the indoor pools to our heart content as it’s got cold, warm, and hot spring pools. The kids love it a lot! The bath tub in the room fits two adults and the parents could soak more privately. Overall, we loved our stay and would definitely come back.

My stay at Sla Ulay was simply fantastic. The hotel building and grounds are beautiful, with such a lovely view of the hills and lush vegetation. The outdoor and indoor hot spring bath were both amazing. My room and bathroom were both huge and spotless, and the bed was a dream. Breakfast and the welcome drink were delicious. The Sla Ukay staff and owners were extremely helpful and kind, and went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable and comfortable. I would 100% recommend.

The hot spring bath in the room was great (it's what people go to Wulai for). The bathroom was big. The TV has a crazy number of channels. The breakfast was pretty good. The location is OK; about a 10 - 12 minute walk up hill from the Old Street (use the steps that cut out the road switch-backs). The owner was nice enough to use a translator for us to understand.

The location was great - Wulai Old Street, Wulai Log Cart, and 7-Eleven just a couple minutes walk away. The bathing pools on the deck - the reason we booked - was obviously great! Fell asleep to frogs croaking peacefully.

Great balcony view of Wulai, spacious private hot tub inside. The property provided round trip transportstion to the main bus stop in Wulai, but it wasn’t located super close to the Main Street if you wanted to walk.
