What we liked the most was securing the hotel lobby entry doors at night, requiring you to have your room key card to enter. This made us feel safe.
However, on departure day I forgot my new black jacket in the room either hanging in the closet or left on the bed. It was purchased in Seattle, during the first part of our trip Nov 1 - 15, because the weather was sooo cold. Upon reaching home I called the hotel while unpacking and discovered it missing. I spoke to the Manager of the Front Office who informed me he will check with the Housekeepers that serviced our room and would call me back. As of today Dec. 12, 2022 Matt has not called back. No one answers when I called the hotel (510-849-1121) several times since checking out. This is very disappointing. I hope someone looks into this and provides an update to me.

Very large sized bathroom. I enjoyed the bathroom very much!
Very large sized bathroom. I enjoyed the bathroom very much! My booking said breakfast included. There was none. Not just this motel/hotel, many are renovating, and quiet enjoyment is not good. But did get some rest around 7 pm. The person above me was a heavy walker/ stomper. Even still, I would choose to come back again, because of the size of the bathroom.

Beautiful city with dirty streets.
Beautiful city with dirty streets. Compared to Boston or Cambridge, the city is clearly not doing enough to address unhoused people, especially those suffering mental illness. Their presence is apparent on sidewalks throughout the city. So too is trash, discarded papers, garbage and generally disorder that could at least be ameliorated with decent temporary housing, daily expanded sidewalk cleaning and leasing of dozens of boarded up businesses (even temporarily to artists, etc).

Enjoyed our stay in Berkeley.
Enjoyed our stay in Berkeley. Went there for our son's graduation and had a few days to walk around. We visited the campus, my husband and son went running and we had a nice dinner at Chez Panisse Bistrot (had to make the reservation THE day they opened up the reservations on-line) to celebrate. Lots of food options near the hotel, getting around Berkeley is easy. It was fun seeing the graduates.

I loved Berkeley and it’s beautiful greenery and views.
I loved Berkeley and it’s beautiful greenery and views. The food options are endless and the casual shopping is so much fun. There is so much to see in the town and on Cal campus. The surrounding areas offer a variety of activities and vistas.
The room was very clean, simply but elegantly appointed, and nicely quiet. The placement of the desk, bed, and TV in relation to each other was well considered. The overhead shower head in the shower was wonderful! I liked the hardwood floor in lieu of carpets because hotel carpets tend to be filthy, so I was comfortable not having to wear shower shoes while relaxing around the room. I also like that their parking area is protected so that I feel as safe leaving my vehicle overnight as anyone can in a socialist city.
Was pleasantly surprised with the hotel . It's a little old and probably gets worn by all the sea water. Rooms are very comfortable tho. Location is nice as it' son the bay, but absolutely nothing around there to walk to, so def need to have a car or Lyft/Uber. Staff was really nice and friendly ! Also the Boathouse restaurant was very good, had breakfast there every day. Would def recommend staying here if you're in that area.
Best location if you visit the North Berkeley gourmet area. Not only is it near all the great eateries (Chez Panisse, the Cheeseboard, Saul's...), it's between an Andronico's and Safeway, you are close to anything you need.
- Spacious room with good pressure shower.
- Comfortable bed.
- An iconic hotel with own history.
The Shattuck Plaza is a beautiful old hotel and is near many restaurants and the campus. The front desk was extremely responsive when we had to call down to them twice: once to vacuum up the chips that were left there by a previous guest, and to share that the bathroom light switch was was not working properly.
Breakfast was great! Location was excellent - close by campus of UC Berkeley - made visit to our kids very nice. The hotel is a historic place and all decors are like antiques - very old school and nice. We had a room with the view of Bay and Golden Gate bridges and SF city (top floor).
The room had everything I needed. It was quite and comfortable. The location is perfect. I loved having the cafe downstairs. The staff in both the cafe and the hotel were exceptionally friendly. Sens is my new go-to place to stay when I visit the Bay Area.
Staff was pleasant and helpful. But a previous guest had defecated on the floor of the common toilet/shower. Apparently the common bath is not cleaned or inspected daily. I would not recommend this hotel despite the good location.
The breakfast was good standard Holiday Inn Express fare. Quite fine. The location was good, except this area of Berkeley is VERY dirty and full of litter. One could walk to good dining. There was a great icecream shop nearby.
The location of the hotel was very convenient to access the campus, and very close to the BART station. The lady at the reception was very friendly and helpful.
I also found the available LAN cable in the room very useful.
This is a simple but great and comfortable hotel. The best by far in terms of value for price in Berkeley that I have seen so far. They will even loan you bicycles. I plan to always stay here in the future when I am in town.
Great friendly staff! Very cute building. Very clean, the bed was comfortable and nice.. Amazing location! Very safe around the hotel. I used the hotel to enjoy some concerts at Berkeley Cal Performance.
What an elegant hidden in time charming hotel. The pool made me feel I was swimming in art. It’s quiet, no television, simple but gorgeous. Delicious nude (pastry-less) quiches for breakfast.
Great location and the room was clean and exceeded my expectations. Hotel manager Sam was very nice and accommodated my parking request. I would recommend and would book again.
Excellent location in downtown Berkeley and just 2 minutes from the BART train station. Lots of good eateries nearby. Hotel has a great bar and its own restaurant.
