Featuring northern Germany’s best-preserved medieval centre, Lübeck justifies its UNESCO World Heritage listing. The river surrounding the old town links it to the historically important trade route of the Baltic Sea. For this reason it was capital of the Hanseatic League of merchant guilds for over 500 years.
Warehouses from that time still line the waterfront and are now shops, restaurants and bars. Their step gables, and the Gothic spires that dominate them, are best viewed from boat trips around the island. The tallest spires belong to 14th-century St Mary’s Church, similar in style to the cathedral of the same era.
However, Lübeck’s icon is the Holstentor, the most impressive remaining city gate which sits on a separate island by a park. This is the first thing most visitors see after arriving at the train station from Lübeck Airport.
The road through the gate leads to a cobbled square housing the porticoed town hall and part of the annual Christmas markets. Other stalls are in Koberg square, overlooked by Saint Jakobi Church and the medieval Holy Spirit Hospital. Nearby are shops selling the famous Niederegger marzipan founded here, and the former houses of Willy Brandt, Günter Grass and Thomas Mann.
The Lübeck accommodation on Booking.com includes hotels, apartments and guest houses, most with parking.

Lubeck seems to have miraculously survived world war 2 having plenty of very interesting buildings to look at. I found it very pleasant for a stroll around especially in the evening. There are plenty of high class clothing shops there and the eating opportunities look good. It is only a short bus or train ride to Travemunde which seems to be a magnet for locals and tourists.

Loved the vibe in Lubeck - plenty to see and do. People seemed friendly and I just wish we could have stayed longer. We travelled to a few cities in this part of Germany over the course of the week, finishing in Hamburg, and Lubeck is the one I always look back on fondly.

The architecture in Lübeck centre is predominantly medieval and coupled with the wide river flowing through it gives a wonderful atmosphere. There are two museums and the church of St. Mary is well worth a visit. Shopping is well catered for and the cafés are excellent, the Weiner Caféhaus in particular. We were slightly wrong-footed by the fact that most shops are closed on Sunday and the cafés don’t open until 11am so breakfast should be taken in the hotel on that day.

We visited Lübeck the week before Christmas to enjoy their Christmas markets. We were not disappointed! Everything was in walking distance. We were there over the weekend, and there was still a lot going on. We enjoyed the café and eateries, as well as all the sites, sounds, smells and tastes of the Christmas markets. (We recommend the Backstore Cafe for delicious breakfasts!) You'll have to sample some marzipan while in Lübeck. It is made there. You can buy marzipan in any supermarket, but you won’t want to miss the delicious cakes at the Niederegger Cafe. There is a small free museum on the top floor of the Niederegger Cafe. Be sure to visit it. The view of the market from there was also beautiful. The people of Lübeck were very friendly. Lübeck is a hidden gem in Northern Germany. Definitely worth checking out.
An amazing hotel/b&b with a lot of old charm.
The building and interior are kept up really great, and the owners took exceptional care of ensuring that the decoration gives the exceptional extra flair.
The owners were really forthcoming and always ensuring that the stay was great and ready to give additional information about Lübeck and the surrounding area.
Full disclosure: we ended up getting lucky and getting a room upgrade
Beautifully renovated building on a convenient location in Lübeck, closeby the city center and with parking closeby. Comfortable bed and bathroom, beautifully furnished and decorated. Lots of little details, flowers, carafe of port wine offered in the room, ... Staff was very kind and helpful. Everything was perfect. Breakfast is a little expensive but very much worth it, it's not your regular hotel breakfast!
The hotel is very close to the train station. The room is nice and comfortable, with a desk, a wardrobe and a very big bed. The reception desk at Hotel Stadt Lubeck is not staffed (at least, when I arrive) and you need to check-in in the nearby hotel "the niu Rig" (also, this is a place where the breakfast is served). It would be nice to be informed in advance, however, the staff is extremely helpful.
This is a beautiful hotel conveniently located at the edge of Lübeck's old city, easily reached from the station and close to the heart of city at the Marienkirche. The staff were very helpful and able to accomodate my early check-in and allowed me to leave my bags at reception after check-out. The beautiful room was comfortable and spacious. I would very gladly come back the next time I'm in Lübeck!
This house is amazing! It was clean and very well-maintained, with a warm and cozy atmosphere even in colder months. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the fridge is big, it is offering a feeling of home. The Internet is fast and all the furniture and equipment are well-maintained and work perfectly. I definitely recommend this house to anyone visiting the area of Lubeck.
Everything. Host is a very helpful and diligent person. Very clear and efficient communication through Booking App. The appartment is a cozy place which make you feel you are really living in the beautiful Lübeck. Location is strategic for Main Station and ZOB. Walkable distance from main interest points of the city.
We were warmly welcomed by Julian. The hotel is beautiful for its reasonable price. In very close proximity to the train station and city center. Julian is now our best German friend and makes the best cocktail at the bar (his secret recipe). very nice staff as well and the breakfast was worth the price!
This property far exceeded our expectations!
Cornelia was a ray of sunshine every morning, always smiling, remembers what you want to drink. She was fabulous! We highly recommend this hotel. Only draw back is there is no elevator but they carried our luggage up and down for us.
Lovely and spacious apartment.great location close to train and bus and also to old town Lubeck.
Near a nice restaurant called Alte Feuerwache which is well worth a visit. Easy access to train and bus to go to Travemunde which we went to twice, the first time on a scenic ferry..
Comfortable hotel with great restaurant, easy access to Lubeck town center. I have stayed here three times and the property is consistently well run. Its close to the train station so you can walk if you are not carrying lots of luggage.
Very nice hotel in the heart of Lübeck. Nice breakfast in an extremely cozy ambient. The same can be said about the evening with personalized bar service. Friendly personell in general. Good value for money.
Location. Newly renovated apartment with studio kitchen was small but wonderful. Good Value. Breakfast was outstanding at nearby hotel owned and managed by same organization.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming, we travel with our dog and it was great to stay at a pet friendly place.
The breakfast at the hotel was also very good.
