Currently, other than very specific areas, the vibe is not good. Security, soldiers and police abundant; and, lots of guns visible. Bars on EVERY storefront. Most stores you cannot enter; you ask for what you need and pay through the bars. And, with a curfew in effect, it’s weird to see absolutely empty streets when there are 3.2 million people living in the city! 😳

A beautiful, safe and welcoming city.
A beautiful, safe and welcoming city. People are nice and polite, the prices at restaurants are just fine and the transportation is easy to use and economic. Malecon 2000 was a really nice tour. Also you can find many gastronomic options and delicious dishes. We would definitely back there

It's a nice town!
It's a nice town! It's so nice to walk along the Malecón where you can find some cafes, children´s playground, parks, and the ferriswheel. I appreciate the free (and clean) bathrooms (though you have to pay a few cents for toilet paper - if the dispenser is not running out of it) and free power supplies to recharge your phone all over the place! (bring your charger) I arrived in Guayaquil at around 2 pm on a Friday and left at 7 pm on a Monday, so I had about 4 days, which I think a bit too long. I could have left on Sunday instead. Overall I felt safe but I do take precautions, keep my backpack in front of me, never put it down in public places, etc. El Cerro de Santa Ana is nice. There are only 440 steps to get to the Lighthouse las Peñas, which is cute. You can see some free roaming iguanas at el parque Seminario in front of the Cathedral. It has a small pond full of fish and turtle, some are endangered kinds. It´s quite entertaining. The park is not big though and it´s full of vendors selling stuff. Be careful, do not stand under a tree, you might get ´rained on´ by iguanas perching on a branch above you. I also walked around Malecón Salado but it was deserted (sad). I also visited Isla Santay. A long walk from the city crossing a pedestrian bridge to go over to the island then another 1.7 km boardwalk to arrive to the village. Not much to see there and the boardwalk is in a dire need of repair. There are lots of holes caused by damaged, broken woods so cycling is not recommended. I booked a tour to see bottled nose dolphins but was cancelled due to low number of participants.

I enjoyed my time.
I enjoyed my time. I was only on foot, so there are a few things I may have missed without traveling by car that I will visit next time.
I felt safe walking alone. I enjoyed the live music along the water (the water is not an attraction).

We went for a wedding, so we did not explore Guayaquil as much as we would have liked. We did the city bus tour for $8.00, went to the iguana park, Mall del sol and got on the teleferico Wish we could have gone up the 400 steps!
The location is very convenient in the center of Alborada. The hotel itself isn't known to taxi drivers, but the church "Nuestra Senora de La Alborada" across the street is known to them. There are supermarkets and restaurants on the whole street, very convenient, and buses go directly to the airport, the long distance bus terminal and the city center from there. Breakfast was simple but good. The staff was very polite and helpful. The room had a fridge, I don't know whether that's standard or I just got lucky.
Very close to airport, main bus station, lavenderia and shopping malls by walking. Do not need to stay central hotels. With Uber , you can get anywhere for a few dollars.
Kitchen facilities are enough. The apartment was very clean. Well decorated so you feel yourself at home. AC works perfectly. That's important because Guayaqil is very hot. The owner is very helpful. I strongly recommend this place in Guayaqil.
I would highly recommend staying with the Hotel Apart Guayaquil Aeropuerto. The staff were exceptional in meeting my needs and assisted in ordering my dinner as well as ensuring that I had a taxi to the airport. The rooms are very nice and clean and it's a very good stay for the price if you are stopping over for a flight out of the airport.
The room was clean. The hotel is very close to the airport and in about 10-15 minutes walking are two big malls. Restaurants were closer. Besides we could store our backpacks there, while we were on the Galapagos Islands which was free of charge, fantastic! The stuff is great: friendly, very helpful and attentive - thank you!
Lovely boutique hotel. Great location in Las Penas. Malecon 2000 and restaurants all within walking distance. Very safe area. Quiet at night. Very good breakfast. Very responsive to any concerns or inquiries. Astrid offered us umbrellas as it was raining. 10 minutes drive to the airport.
"We came to Guayaquil totally exhausted from the long journey and everything changed suddenly when we got such a warm welcome at Hotel Casa del Rio Guayas. We felt immediately like at home. The rooms are nice and cosy and the personal very very kind and exceptionally courteous."
Good location, clean room, clean bathroom, good amenities, good hot water ( although it’s very hot in Guayaquil that the cold water is really warm ), good host and safe neighborhood. Also the property is very close / near airport.
Really nice hotel. Modern rooms, large bathroom, included airport transfers and buffet breakfast. The location is perfect, right next to Malecon. Rooftop is the star- with bar, and infinity pool…excellent place to hang out.
excellent service , received personal correspondence from the hotel to get airport pick up. they went above and beyond to accommodate us.rooms were cozy and room service with a full kitchen at 1 am incredible. thank you!!!
Hotel staff was extremely helpful, they really went out of their way to help us with a specific camera item that we tried to purchase in Guayaquil. In general very friendly and polite. Fantastic breakfast!
The firm bed, the spacious bedroom, the help in getting safe transportation from airport. Very friendlt and helpful customer service which was so important to us as newcomers to Ecuador and Guayaquil.
Given current insecurity in Guayaquil, the fact that the hotel is connected to a giant mall is very helpful. You only have to walk across a hall and you have access to restaurants and grocery stores.
The hotel is located in a beautiful historical area of Guayaquil with gorgeous sights as you walk the streets. It is also centrally located within walking distance of several good restaurants.
Located adjacent to the airport, they had comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast, pool, and well equipped exercise facility. Restaurant had good selection of both Ecuadorian and other items.
We have stayed at this hotel many times. The staff is always helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The location near the airport and Mall del Sol is ideal.
Really nice hotel especially with the pool - which is nice to spend time in Guayaquil without going into the city itself, that can be dangerous especially for foreigners.
We like the location of the Grand Hotel Guayaquil. Staff was helpful. Restaurant and food very nice for lunch and breakfast. Pool lovely and room is nice.
