A small but beautiful city.
A small but beautiful city. It was a fishing village but has been transformed to a tourist town. The main street -- Ave. Charles Darwin, is full of life, literally -- sea lions, iguanas, pelicans, etc. It's an adventure like no other.

It's a nice, friendly town.
It's a nice, friendly town. It's got plenty of ATMS, several grocery stores, and a lovely oceanfront walk. The fish market is a must see in the morning. There are sea lions who hang around waiting for scraps. I also saw iguanas and pelicans waiting for handouts. There's very nice bars, restaurants, and market stalls. It's a little spendy, because you're on an island. There's things you can do for free, on your own. There's also TONS of tour companies running day trips to all the nearby islands. You can walk most anywhere, and there are cheap taxis as well.

The touristy part and the harbor to the Darwin research...
The touristy part and the harbor to the Darwin research center was full of shops, restaurants both cheap and expensive, street food, and travel agencies. People are friendly and it’s clean and safe.
Los Kiosko is an intense street where people are coming at you with menus trying to get you come to them - at the same time. But they have specials for $5 lunch or dinner plus a regular menu with cheap meals too. Great Ecuadorian food! We ate ice cream everyday! There was a little froyo place on Baltra and a gelato place down the same street closer to the harbor that was excellent. We found pan de yucca at a street food vendor that was magical, though not always open.
Sea lions are everywhere near the water (not in the same capacity as San Cristobal but still).
You can watch blue footed boobies diving into the water all the time and the frigits are out in mass as well!
Everyone is happy.
Also we found our favorite travel agency with the Galapagos Living Travel Agency. They were fair priced and hilarious. Lots of laughs and planning of epic next day adventures.

We liked the laid-back feeling when the main road was closed in the evening and the music of the street musicians. We also liked the accessibility of shops, beaches, wildlife, information centre and harbour,
Above all, we appreciated every smiling face and helpful citizen in town.

Diving with Macarrons was fantastic.
Diving with Macarrons was fantastic. Burgers at Golden Prague are amazing. Head to the fish cleaning spot in front of Macarrons in the morning to watch some entitled pelicans and cheeky seals hassling the fishers. Plenty of cheap laundromats in town so no need to bring everything you own. Pizza Italia is great value.
This is a small family-run place that is attractive, beautifully-maintained and clean. It is easy walking distance to downtown Puerto Ayora. Breakfast is plentiful, and tasty. The owners are kind, caring, energetic, and helpful. There is even a furled hammock on the veranda of each room for a nap if desired. The neighborhood is pretty quiet and security is very good, with a locked gate separating the interior courtyard/patio from the street, a la Spanish style. This was the favorite hotel of our trip.
i really would recommend staying here when you go to puerto ayora.
i stayed here for a couple of nights and had a good time. nice kitchen, rooms and bathrooms are clean.
most important of all is the staff and owner however, i had a problem with my bank and could not get any money which was kinda stressful, but the staff and owner helped me in a great way. thanks for the everything and i will be back!
you can also book daytours and ferries with the owner at good prices.
Great location for a good price. Friendly staff. The aircon was decent enough to keep the room cool. The bed is huge, as it is two small double beds put together, and you don't notice any gap in the middle. Next door to one of the best restaurants in town and close to everything else, including the best beach in Puerto Ayora, playa de la estación. Decent kitchen with plenty of seating, and free drinking water. Plus you can leave your bags in the hostel after checkout.
Neliza was absolutely amazing. She washed my clothes for me without being asked on more than one occasion, made me a snack on arrival, gave me some amazing seafood pasta on another day and the best papaya I've ever tasted for breakfast. As other reviewers have said, she truly makes this place. Her advice on places to go and see that aren't a rip off was also amazing. If I come back to Puerto Ayora (or if anyone I know does), there's only one place to stay!!
My husband and I live an Galapagos and have stayed in many hotels in Puerto Ayora. I particularly like this location a few blocks away from the center; it's so much more peaceful and quiet at night! Rooms are large, a/c works great, good hot water showers. We ate breakfast (not included - we bought supplies at the grocery and stored in the mini-fridge in our room) on the communal 2nd floor balcony. Also appreciate the free drinking water.
The staff at the Finch Bay hotel were extremely welcoming, the food was excellent (both for breakfast and dinner) and the location was incredibly special. The walk from the water taxi drop off was longer than expected but so unusual to arrive at a destination this way so it wasn’t a problem. I can honestly say this was the best hotel we’ve ever stayed at. There was a feeling of quality and friendliness that made our stay very special.
This is a lovely, family-run hotel. It is right in the heart of things (restaurants, shops, sights), but is extremely quiet. Breakfast is excellent. The bed is comfortable. It was pretty hot during my visit but the air conditioner kept the room at a very comfortable temperature. I recommend this hotel t5o other travelers and if I were to return to Puerto Ayora I would stay here again.
Great location in Puerto Ayora with many restaurants, bars, and stores within easy walking distance. The port/pier is also very close. I booked 2 nights and changed rooms after the first because it wasn't the room I had reserved and paid. Both rooms were very spacious, second room had refrigerator and small balcony. There was free filtered water at check in area.
Our trip was short and we only did a one night stay at the hotel, the owner let us leave our things at the hotel so we could explore around after out check out time. He was very nice to us and even offer to call a taxi so we could explore the turtle ranch and the beach.
Gorgeous, peaceful and quiet yet minutes from the bustle of Puerto Ayora. Spacious accommodations and the host Pilar is so loving, compassionate and helpful. Fantastic experience, I wouldn’t consider looking for other accommodations on Santa Cruz.
The location is really good. Just a block from the main road and near the port.
The bed was comfortable.
The price is good for what you get, compared to the other hotels in Puerto Ayora.
It's fine if you are only staying for one or two night.
Max and his staff are super friendly and we enjoyed every second of our stay. He helped us whenever we needed it. We really liked the maritime style of the hotel. If we ever come back to Santa Cruz we will definitely stay at Capitan Max B&B.
The hotel was centrally located, and the staff was very nice. The family room was spacious with a couch and large bed and also had a kitchen to fix snacks for excursions. Breakfast was fresh and served in the room.
Very friendly and accommodating staff! We stayed at the Ikala before and moved here for the last two days. We liked this place better and the price was a fourth of the price of the Ikala Hotel. Highly recommend it!
Room was huge and clean, really nice staff, great location close to the pier and on one of the major streets. Room was just as nice as other places I stayed in Puerto Ayora, and about 1/3 the price.
Awesome experience! Everything perfect from check in to check out! The staff is the icing of the cake! Great people and they make you feel home. Highly recommend it in Puerto Ayora!
Very well located in the middle of town but also not loud.
Provided early breakfast on a day we were going on a tour which was most appreciated.
Free water in the hotel lobby.
