Seems like a nice area - no concerns about the car being broken into.

Great old center with lots of interesting sights, a decent number of shops and a couple of good restaurants. We went on a tour of the "Souterrains de Laon : Secrets sous la ville" which was great, with explanation by the tour guide in English + an audio guide in French, English and Dutch (all with "Adult" or "Child" option). Tickets and audio guides are available at the Tourist Office, at the Cathedral square.

What a lovely little town and such beautiful decorations in the streets as well as a night of music and fab street life (end of july) make sure you book ahead in a couple of restaurants uphill near the cathedral. Worth stopping and visiting when driving down from the uk towards Reims southward. A hidden little French jewel.

A charming authentic French medieval town which is going to be reborn culturally owing to the new mayor. The central street is a revelation of all the senses owing to a beautiful decor.
There still many closed houses though - one can guess that the town is not rich and many houses were abandoned.

A very interesting fortified city with wonderful view over the surrounding countryside and it's well worth taking the time to walk the 7km of ramparts. The cathedral should not be ignored either and is on a par with Reims and Bourges.

Wonderful medieval city with history center and outstanding cathedral. Somewhat hard to navigate the streets (not atypical) but easier after getting oriented. Good last stop on my trip with easy drive to Charles de Gaulle for flight home.

Laon has two parts to it, the old town and the new town.
Laon has two parts to it, the old town and the new town. We just visited the old town, which was just lovely. The cathedral is stunning on the outside but a bit plain on the inside. The detail on the outside was awesome, literally. So much detail to it and incredible at night time as it's lit up. Feels very gothic.
Lots of interesting shops in the town and, when we went, the street skylines had been decorated with balloons and lampshades. Might sound odd but it was beautiful. Plenty of restaurants to choose from. We stayed here for an overnight stop on the way and on the way back from the south of France. I feel you wouldn't need any more than one or two nights here, but was definitely worth the visit.
Situated in the historic centre of a very beautiful town. Easy walking distance to the main square, in which, and on the way to which, you I'll find a wide choice of restaurants, bars and cafes. Parking can be a bit of an issue, although I was lucky, and this is the centre of a town that, sometime in the nineth century, was France's capital so the streets weren't designed for modern cars. But if you're in the historic centre you just have to accept these things. I'd happily stay there again
Maison Seraphine is a 17th century property in the heart of Laon
Laon is an amazing small medieval 🏰 town near Reims and St Quentin
The house has been artfully decorated and the beauty of the beams has been preserved
There is a buffet breakfast for €10 from 0800-1000
The parking is on the street it is free and there are lots of spaces in this town so don’t worry about that
Pierre is a really nice guy
Kettle in the room and lovely selection of herbal teas
We were just staying one night on our journey through France - it is conveniently located not far from the motorway. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spotlessly clean and breakfast was great - all you need and a bit more! My husband uses a wheelchair so needs disabled facilities- the shower room was brilliant. The hotel has an underground car park which is accessible by a lift to all rooms. A great little hotel. Thank you.
Everything was to expectation. I particularly liked the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. We arrived with our camper van to stay at the Ibis because there are very few campsites open in France in October. There was spacious safe parking for our camper while we stayed in the Hotel. Unfortunately the restaurant was not open the night we stayed but Joel the staff member on duty that night prepared us a lovely supper which was much appreciated.
La Banniere is a charming hotel nicely situated near the cathedral in the historic centre of Laon, with secure parking on site. The staff are charming and the owner has a great knowledge of the history of the town, with some very interesting stories. Good sized, quiet room, comfortable bed, so slept well.
Good breakfast with fresh laid eggs and homemade jams. Dinner is also recommended, with traditional French cuisine.
As a historical downtown, quiet Laon is a visit more than worth. Its cathedral is magnificent, its downtown has many old and beautiful houses, and its location on the top of a high hill overlooking the Champagne plains just wonderful. The B&B Les Hotes d'Eloise has a great location right behid the Cathedral and ideal for such a visit. Charming reception by our hosts as well!
We received a very warm welcome and shown to our room. Great location in front of the cathedral, with overnight parking down the street. Many restaurants nearby but we ate in the Logis which was very good.
It was a fairly short drive from the motorway and we had always wanted to stay in Laon as you can see it in the distance
Location is great. Easy free parking nearby. A fascinating town to visit. I brought my E-Bike and did an 80 km circuit down to the Ailette river trail. The electric assistance was pretty useful for getting back up into Laon. Don't miss the Secret Underground tour. It's fascinating.
Laon is beautiful.
Superbly thought out. A small apartment, but very well laid out. Good size bathroom. Kitchinette well equipped with modern matching crockery. Decor extremely well considered, which showed that the owners cared. Bars and restaurants a 5 minute walk.
The location is fabulous -short walk from the cathedral and ramparts and choice of restaurants and bars. The man running the hotel was lovely. Breakfast was good - lovely fresh bread and good coffee. Interesting old building. Price ok for the location.
Location was amazing. The hotel faces the incredible cathedral, whose facade is illuminated at night. Just a great experience, only surpassed by the incredible dinner attached to the hotel.
Second time here , nice room nice location really friendly staff. Plenty of parking nearby and near to town centre. Attractive old town a short but steep walk away.
Good location for a stopover (near motorway). Rooms basic, but clean and comfortable. For the price exactly what I would expect and good value for money
