The workhouse, victorian prison and the courthouse were fascinating. Also a beautiful Cathedral, lovely river walks parks. Excellent bus service to Harrogate and surrounding areas, all for £2.00 or bus pass. Nice places to eat and a very pretty little city. Would recommend as once there you don't need a car unless you want to explore further.

Ripon Cathedral was holding a Spring Fayre fundraiser - lots of stalls and a choir festival! There is a Museum walking Trail
There are independent places to eat and one of the larger chains in the market square which suited us!
Unfortunately the Spa Swimming Baths is closed - would've loved to see inside!

Ripon has 3 small museums which are well worth a visit. Try to catch the horn blower who sets the watch every night at 9pm. A pleasant town to walk around and of course the cathedral is a must, including the saxon undercroft.

Ripon had so much more to offer than expected.
Ripon had so much more to offer than expected. Everyone was so friendly, it has a Cathedral, three museums, a beautiful square, market day is on a Thursday. Just 5 minutes drive away is Studley Deer Park and Fountains Abbey, it had a racecourse, beautiful canal and riverside walks , at 9pm a must is a visit to the square to see the Ripon horn-blower blow the horn at the obelise and give a brief history of the Cities traditions.
We stayed at the Blackamoor with its own restaurant, and had a light lunch at Tates Garden Centre , both exceptional.
We had a wonderful stay!! The location was excellent, in the heart of Ripon. The hotel and its facilities were first class and the staff welcoming, friendly and efficient. Breakfast was great and included a choice, with the Full Yorkshire a very full meal. Special mention to Amelia, for her cocktail expertise, and Aly, who was great throughout our entire stay! Highly recommended!!
We know what to expect at Wetherspoons hotels, and this one did not disappoint. We had a room at the top of the hotel (no lift, but we knew that), with an excellent view of the market square. We were here over the Jubilee celebrations, and Ripon had really gone to town. Lovely to be part of it all. Staff were very helpful, with Johnny (deputy manager) going the extra mile.
Situated in a the lovely village of Sawley , next to the village green and opposite the pub. Very comfortable cottage with all the mod cons ! Dog friendly .Down the road from an ice cream shop and easy drive to Brimham rocks, Fountains Abbey, Masham and Ripon. Owner was easy to contact with questions relating to new heating system.
Beautiful, tranquil setting in the English countryside. Neil is so accommodating and will help you with anything you need during your stay. The room was decorated beautifully, and the breakfast was exceptional. North Stainly is only 10 minutes from Ripon town so you’re close to shops, pharmacies etc if needed.
The hotel was superb, lovely old building felt really comfortable, room was great even the holes and the cracks on the walls added to the charm of the place.
Breakfast was really good but unfortunately as I have lots of eating problems couldn't eat all was offered, my wife absolutely loved it all.
the hosts were very accommodating, we travelled up from Dorset for a funeral and they allowed us slightly early entry. The key safe was easy to locate and use.
The house was located in a quiet street around 15 mins walk from Ripon centre.
Lovely house with everything you need.
Location - short walk to town centre. Nicely surprised that Ripon had some interesting things to see.
Bathroom was very large. Macerating toilet was noisy. We could hear the adjoining room in the night.
We were travelling to Scarborough for a break and wanted a halfway stopover to visit Ripon. This hotel was perfectly located, good value, comfortable, had great dining facilities, and was most welcoming.
A Great place to stay right in the middle of the square in ripon centre easy to find secure parking and the apartment was spotless we were even provided with some goodies which was a lovely surprise
We like the unicorn as it's central to everything, it has cheap drinks & friendly staff. We visit Ripon quite often & would be nice if could get discount on the rooms while staying there a lot.
