Staff were really helpful and friendly, explaining everything to us as this was our first experience in an onsen town. The dinner was very big and featured lots of local dishes (great food but very traditional so not to everyone's taste). Overall lots of new experiences and we had a good time.
Yamanakaonsen Ohanami Kyubei is offering accommodation in Kaga. Conveniently situated in the Yamanaka Onsen district, this ryokan provides a hot spring bath. Yamashiro Onsen is 5 km from the ryokan.

The staff are very friendly at the desk. Of all the hotel and ryokan we stayed on this 12 days trip this is the only ryokan that truly provide service right from the start , even before complete our check in. They first start off in offering to park the car for us and greet us at the parking lot. Our foot not even at their door yet! Remember this is not some kind of 6 or 7 stars hotel, they even help us take our luggages back to our room. And our futons are already in placed for us to ready to sleep as we asked for late check in and arrived past 10pm.
The public bath comes with outdoor onsen , and the whole place looks very new. Especially the area where you dry your hair. Love the Panasonic hair dryer they let the guest use. We end up looking at electronic store after but unfortunately don't have it in the voltage for overseas use.
P.S. truly feel the strength of an old hotel trying to strive for growth and survive during harship. I don't like some online reviews saying they feel they got negative feelings about staying in this place as the nearby hotels are vacant and shut down , probably no business due from covid in the past couple years. This hotel renovated their facility , the room we stayed at got toilet renovated, the whole toilet is in sparkling clean state. And they got a new wing budiling fully refurbished with nicer room decor which I saw on the booking.com website. Of course comes in higher prices. But the Japanese style room we see them got wallpaper replaced so it wasn't so dull. The door even it was in old door frame but they switched to card access on their lo cks. Not all ryokan has it. Of the few I stayed on this trip only this one got card access. The other ones all still use those bulky key chain with keys to enter. In the area , got many other few nicer and pricey options. If feeling staying in a ryokan that is next to an empty abundant hotel is a concern to you , then is your problem.

The onsen was totally Japanese in style and attention to detail, very relaxing and with a staff dedicated to providing the best service. They were attentive and helpful.
The forest near the onsen was beautiful for hiking and contemplating nature. Loved it.
I will definitely return and to the same onsen.

Small historic area with onsen (hot spring baths).
Small historic area with onsen (hot spring baths). Nice for strolling around, and there is a loop bus to take you to local attractions. Excellent resort hotels available. Area is known for crafts, and there are a number of nice shops showcasing the works of artisans. Many local people speak some English, but there are not a lot of Western tourists.

Kaga is a really nice area. The nature is great.
Kaga is a really nice area. The nature is great. We made soba noodles and ate the result! We painted lacquer bowls and enjoyed the scenery around our hotel. The Yamanaka area is particularly nice. We also went to the Motorcar Museum of Japan, which is a hidden gem and really enjoyed it. It’s also really close to many attractions in Fukui, if you have the time to visit them, like the Dinosaur Museum and the Fukui Rocks area. I’d recommend Kaga to anyone who wants to get a little off the beaten path.

BEST WAY TO SEE KAGA WAS THE 2 DAY PASS ON THE CAN BUS-ONE...
BEST WAY TO SEE KAGA WAS THE 2 DAY PASS ON THE CAN BUS-ONE DAY MOUNTAIN--- GORGEOUS TEMPLES/GARDENS, SIGHTSEEING!
AND 2ND DAY TO THE OCEAN CIRCLE TOUR. WEATHER WAS NOT AS NICE AS DAY 1 , BUT PREFERRED MOUNTAIN TOURS.
There was a bus stop right in front of the hotel, which is handy, and there was a convenience store kitty-corner. The bath water was also super hot, which I love. The breakfast was delicious, and the staff was very kind. No idea if they spoke English, but there were instructions in English for those who don't speak Japanese. Also, the futons were very thick for a ryoukan-styled hotel. If you're visiting the craft village, I recommend getting to Kagaonsen station the afternoon before and asking the info office about travel and coupons.
Such a beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. The staff were always really friendly. My japanese isn't the best, but they really listened to any questions I had. I enjoyed the breakfast and the baths are beautiful! I felt so refreshed after my stay, the beds were so comfortable and the rooms were at a perfect temperature. The location is amazing. I love walking so walking around the local area is something I can really recommend.
The Kaiseki dinners were very good which included all you can eat shrimp and vegetable tempura including whole eggs in tempura and free beer and soft drinks. The individually served Japanese breakfast was a real treat because many other ryokans unfortunately now serve buffet breakfasts. The staff who served the Kaiseki dinners and breakfasts were excellent!! They were very friendly and caring.
We love how authentic it all was. The room was super confortable but we did book at 8 people room for just 2. So is important to take that into condideration. It felt classical japanese and it there where a lot of locals. Food was delicious both dinner wich was amazing and breakfast
The meals were our favorite in all of Japan. We loved the 10-course teppanyaki dinner, breakfast and afternoon pancakes. The hotel staff were extremely nice. We didn't speak Japanese but they had an English-speaking staff member. The onsen was fabulous too.
The room was spacious. The food was quite delicious. The most impressive was the staff’s service. My friend forgot her backpack on the train and (speaking very little Japanese) we asked the staff for assistance. They were extremely helpful.
Akiko Morita and her staff were extremely helpful with something we had misplaced. She also assisted us by calling our next hotel to get their shuttle information for us. The hotel is huge and the onsen is nice.
the speciality of this Japanese style hotel is good nature views with sounds of river, able to reserve free private outdoor hot tabs. Foods are very good, services are good too.
Hotel staffs are very polite and attentive. Both meals covered were delicious and it was served in a private area. Room is spacious and comfortable with beautiful lake view.
The hotel was huge and the staff were very hospitable, extremely polite and helpful. Very good amenities in the hotel but may not be as accessible via public transport.
We had a great vacation here, friendly and nice staff, good environment in and around hotel, many activities and drinks provide by the hotel. Highly recommend ;)
