The host was a grandma and a grandpa, they were super nice and caring. It made us feel like home, and they made us traditional Japanese breakfast which was very delicious.
We will definitely come back next time!

Lots to do around this area if you love the outdoors OR just want a quite weekend away from the crowds, half hour to Nagano, for Winter close to some of Japan's best ski resorts - Myoko, Hakuba, Madarao, Nozawa. For summer Nijiri lake is an adventure paradise for things to do in and out of the water.
Super easy to come by car or shinkasen from Tokyo.
The hotel is clean, has a wonderful continental breakfast with eggs and sausages cooked fresh, many bread and cereal options, hot tea & coffee. It is a 2 minute walk from the Lake Nojiri, which is super convinient as you can do SUP, kayaking and other water activities there and then return to the hotel to rest. For those staying with the kids, there is TV with youtube/netfilx and of course - internet if you want to bring your own device. Also, there is a game room with board games and table football.
We had a lovely couple of days exploring Lake Nojiri and the surrounding mountains using Elan Hotel as our base. The hotel is newly renovated, very clean, the rooms were spacious and had incredible views over the lake, breakfast was delicious and Chris and Mark went out of their way to help us. We look forward to returning in Winter. Thanks for a great stay!
Ted was a wonderful host. He was very friendly and provided us with lots of info on where to eat and what to do. He even booked our fishing trip and made sure that we were safely on board and communicated our needs to the Japanese speaking boat man. Kudos to Ted. The hotel has a beautiful view of the lake. It was clean and warm.
It is a ski resort and we were assigned a room facing the ski field though there was no snow anymore as ski season has ended but the whole envirnoment was very nice and peaceful. The hot bath was closed but they gave us access in the hotel next to it which was adjoining building and it was a beautiful and relaxing bath.
Very nice mountain hotel. The view is espectacular! The owner is amazingly nice and the breakfast is not a huge buffet style but for me is perfect. Bread made there, muffins, granola, cereals, fruits. Very complete and they give you a plate of fried or scramble eggs with salad and sausage.
Comfortable rooms for ski holidays. Access to the ski slope directly from the hotel. There is a swimming pool and an onsen in the hotel, right in one place. Everything is equipped and thought out for skiers and snowboarders, equipment rental, shops and lockers for ski equipment.
