Clean, comfortable and a good location. It was a 4 night stay and towels were changed regularly, bins emptied every day. We have stayed in a lot more expensive hotels and not had that service without requesting it. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.

My sister and I spent 5 nights here. The location was excellent. For any of the local "tours" you can easily walk to the pickup point. Restaurants and smaller stores are within a block or two. There is a grocery store within walking distance, as well. Parking is available on site, but limited in the number of spaces. Most of the people staying here were very much younger than my sister and I, and I enjoyed talking to them. Staff was very helpful.

Paihia is a very good place to stay if you want to explore Northland. If you are driving, you can go on your own to the tip of the North Island in about 3 hours. You can drive over to the Kauri Forest on the west side in about 1.5 hours. You can get tours out of Paihia for the Bay of Islands, the Ninety Mile Beach/Cape Reinga, Waitangi Treaty Grounds (you can walk there, about 3 km), rent kayaks or paddle boards, get fishing charters, take a ferry to Russell (or drive there). We spent 5 nights there and could have stayed a few more days and done even more.

Paihia is such a beautiful part of New Zealand!
Paihia is such a beautiful part of New Zealand! As the gateway to the Bay of Islands, there is so much to see and do here. There are some incredible restaurants to eat at and my husband highly recommends the Waitangi Golf Club just 5 minutes from Paihia. Definitely add the Bay of Islands to your list of places to visit in the North Island of NZ!

Great town with friendly locals.
Great town with friendly locals. All hospitality options covered, with a bar on a jetty that is very pleasant but always seemed short staffed. Easy walking town and a jetty to Russell with happy staff to greet you.
Visited Pompallier House in Russell which is well worth the visit and again met with lovely friendly greeting and service.

We spent two nights at Paihia Beach Resort and Hotel.
We spent two nights at Paihia Beach Resort and Hotel. This is a five-star hotel and it was in fair to good condition. The reception desk is staffed between 8am to 9pm. Staff were very helpful. When we got there it was raining and the reception staff had run out of umbrellas. A suggestion, if you place at least one umbrella in each room as this seems to be fair. A bonus was they had a self laundry room that was complimentary for the guest. The hallways and lift area smelt stuffy but the rooms were quite clean.
The staff at reception were very helpful and knowledgeable.
The hotel is in close proximity to a local supermarket which was about a 10 minute walk and it was about 8 minute walk to the wharf and the restaurants.
Transport: We used Kerikeri Taxis from the airport to the hotel.
Weather: We were in Paihia in early December but temperatures were dropping to 15°C at night and during the day it goes up to 21°C. The locals have told us that summer in New Zealand starts in late January and temperatures do not go over 30°C.
There is a free breakfast brought to your room each morning, and different each day. There is a main item, (omelet, bagel w/salmon) and a nice fruit plate. The location is about a ten minute walk from the main part of town and right across the road from the Paihia to Opua trail start. This end of the trail is only available at low tide. If the tide is up, walk over the hill on the sidewalk until the beach is there. Cross over a bridge and into the bush on the left to finish this great walk.
Bounty Motel is in a great location centrally located to the waterfront, shops and restaurants. No need to climb any steep hills. The motel was spotlessly clean. Basics such as tea, coffee, milk, salt/pepper were provided. There was a kettle, mini fridge and microwave in the room. Plates, mugs, cutlery was available, also towels and small toiletries. There was a mini kitchen but no stove. Reasonably priced rooms.
What a view!! Stunning view of the bay from the lounge area and the balcony of apartment 1. Large, older style, clean and comfortable 2 bedroom apartment with everything needed. Parking right outside the door. Short drive from The Retreat into Paihia town - too far to walk. Very happy and friendly welcome. The apartment reminded me of those lovely beach shacks in Australia we holidayed in when I was a child.
The Averill Motel is in a good location and within easy walking distance to bars restaurants and the beach. We found the manager very informative and helpful for excursions. The unit was clean and we had fresh towels every day. We only booked for two nights but stayed a third night. I can recommend the motel. Has nice pool and spa and the area around was very clean.
Family of 6 stayed for 3 nights. Room was clean & beds were comfy! Excellent location with everything within walking distance. Andy was very friendly & welcoming & allowed me to bring my 6month olds portacot! Will definitely be my go to place too stay when holidaying in Paihia with my children 😊
Fantastic location. Great bar just around the corner. Loved the holiday vibe of Paihia. Andy was fantastic, great communication. We were the ones staying there so was quiet. Bit of local noise on a Saturday night. Great spacious family room. Great shared amenities. Rooms very warm.
it is a beautiful quiet spot overlooking the river, we stayed in a bungalow and it was perfect for our family. you can walk onto the riverside beach & your right next to the bridge to go across to Copthorne/treaty grounds etc countdown is very close & Paihia short 5 min drive away
Spacious nice appartment in quiet area. Possibility of cooking including stovetop. New Hot tub with warm water ready for bath immediately after our arrival with impressive view over Bay of Islands. Possibility for checkin around 8pm. Good place to stay for a week.
Perfect location in Paihia, with easy walkability to cafe's, restaurants, the wharf etc. The room we chose had views over the water towards Russell and was a lovely spot to take in the atmosphere of the Bay of Islands.
The apartment had everything we needed, including plenty of cookware in the kitchen. The bed was comfortable. Walking distance to beach and ferry terminal. One block to nearest grocery store, shopping and restaurants.
Very clean and quiet Motel that is located right by the water and also 5 minutes walk from ferry terminal and restaurants. Very friendly staff and owners. Definitely recommend staying at Breakwater Motel Paihia
All in all it was very good value. Apart from being a little ‘tired’ the hotel was a pleasant place to be and the ‘apartment” we had offered all we needed with a superb sea view. Breakfast was very good too.
A spacious, modern, clean, well equipped unit, just steps away from the Paihia Wharf, restaurants, and the main street. The unit is like new with everything we needed and the property is well maintained.
The location of the hotel is great, close to the beach and other amentities. Nice to have room to move in a two bedroom and upstairs kitchen and lounge area. Shower pressure was good!
I was sailing from the Bay of Islands Sailing Club so the location of the hotel was perfect, especially with the room (207) leading out onto the approach road to the sailing club.
The check-in and out was easy and the hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The inhouse restaurant's menu was limited, but the food was nice and enjoyable.
