Didn't think I was going to stay in a backpacker lodge after my backpacking days but I'm glad I did. The room was clean and acceptable for a one night transit stay in Taupo. I booked a room with a private toilet so my experience may be slightly different from the other backpackers in the lodge but for the cost and the clean bed abd good night's rest, Haka Lodge is bang on the buck.

Like very much the pods, one of the best dorms I’ve found in NZ. The kitchen and dining area were good and spacious to cook, eat and encourage the interaction with other guests. Also it had a great chill area to rest and meet other travelers.
