A lovely, clean, and simple pension with tatami/futons and the added bonus of toilets in each room, which many pensions don't have (they have shared toilets). However, the bath is shared and is not in the room, which is no problem! Plus nearby local free public onsens are wonderful. It's run by a very nice family, has a good location near bus stops plus is a short walk from the Karasawa lift (can ski from there to main areas and back). Breakfast was very tasty with a lot of variety and a mix of Japanese and Western options. Reasonably priced-- I would stay there again!

It had everything you needed. The toilets and showers were so clean at any time day or night. Breakfast for 500 yen was a great start to the day. Then you had dinner which was all you could eat which cost us around $30 Australian dollars for 2 adults. Our kids are free as they are under 6 years old. It had ski hire, free washing machine and dryer. Great location a short 5 minute walk to the main gondola to ski the mountains. The owner and staff were fantastic and very attentive and helped with everything we asked. Totally recommend

We really enjoyed our stay at Lodge Matsuya, the facilities are all very clean and comfortable and it was very reasonably priced. The Breakfast in particular was delicious and the hosts were so friendly and went out of their way to prepare a vegan Japanese breakfast for me which was amazing. The Lodge is also ideally located in the centre of town close to local restaurants and the onsen trail (a must try if you're in town). Highly recommend Lodge Matsuya. A real highlight of our Japan trip.

Wonderful stay here, the hosts don't speak English but are always more than happy to help and with translate apps, it's easy enough. The room was comfortable, with traditional bedding and the location was unbeatable! A short walk to the lifts and right in the heart of all the restaurants and shops. The shower is onsen style, with a schedule for men and women - something to keep in mind when booking!
