I do not have the words to express how good my time here was. Not only is the hostel in a beautiful location with many amenities for an affordable price but the family that runs the hostel quickly became a family I could call my own. José, Matilde, Inti, and Joselito are all such kind and personable people - I was here during Inti Raymi and José invited me to join for a ritual bathing ceremony practiced by many of the indigenous people, and explained the significance of it all. Beyond the hospitality, the rooms are incredibly spacious and comfortable and if you want it, single rooms are very affordable. On top of this, Inti offers a taxi service (well known as the ‘Inti Taxi’ haha) and can bring you wherever you need! During one of my days here I took the ‘Inti Taxi’ to El Lechero and the Condor Park and Inti was able to share tons of information about these places. This is the perfect place to stay if you are looking to visit and immerse yourself in the Otavaleño culture. I also learned some Kichwa from the family as well.

They prepared us dinner one night which was great! The house is super cute and clean, love the view to the lake. The town is safe to walk I'm at night. Make sure to go to Bambu Grill. Great place to eat.

This colourful hostel offers rooms with free Wi-Fi and shared bathrooms in Esperanza town, only 100 metres from Santa Maria de la Esperanza church. Horse riding and trekking trips can be booked. I had an excellent stay at Refugio Terra Esperanza. Emerson was so helpful in answering all my questions. Excellent services. He cooked me breakfast for $3 and helped me call a taxi to Cumbre Imbabura (which I highly recommend). The place itself is rustic, but charming and cozy. It has great views of Imbabura and Cayambe, so definitely try to wake up early for that. Overall, I would highly recommend this refugio to anyone traveling here. Emerson is a great host and I could not have asked for a better experience. Thank you Emerson!

Fantastic breakfast in a beautiful setting. Rooms are like cabins in the woods. The grounds make you feel like you are in a rain forest.

Crossed by a waterfall, this ethnic-style house in Peguche, 3 km from Otavalo, features rooms with views of the Andes and Valley of Dawn. Free Wi-Fi and parking are available. This establishment was run beautifully. I did not have a car but a taxi in and out of town was easy to hire and only 3 US dollars. It is also nice to walk to town or in the surrounding nature. Such a lovely time I plan to come back with my family.
