Oamaru Backpackers is truly a home away from home!!! It’s very homey, comfortable, clean, in a quiet residential area and perfect location to the Blue Penguin Colony, historical area of town and only a few minutes to the wharf! My bed was sooo comfortable & has a privacy curtain! It has a beautiful backyard where one could chill, read a book, eat a meal! The kitchen, dining area, lounge area & solarium are all very clean, spacious & perfect view of the wharf!

The 6 bed mixed dorm was spacious and clean. Sturdy bunk bed with each having their own light and usb charging point. The toilets and showers were clean. Free street parking right outside the accommodation. Free breakfast stuff, alongside tea, coffee etc as well as fruit juices. The view from the kitchen/living areas were beautiful. The location is perfect for Oamaru. I stayed for 2 nights and had the mixed dorm to myself the first night!

It felt very much like being at home, especially with the collection of vhs tapes which gave me such nostalgia! Everyone I met at the hostel was really lovely, in particular Marshall who is the caretaker, who gave me some great recommendations for local food and bevs. So nice to have a friendly face when you're as far from home as I was!
