Lena, the host was very hospitable going as far as giving me an opportunity to sample some home made borscht. It is in a great location for going to the mountains and Lena had a lot of useful information about the regions rural areas. It is a considerable walk from the Almaly district of the city but for me that was a good thing as Almaty is an enjoyable city to navigate on foot with it's wide avenues and idyllic parks.

Wonderful hostel well deserving of its high rating - impressively clean, good lockers, easy access to the metro, nearby food and supermarket, three showers and toilets, space for working cooking and eating. Even if not all speak English, the staff are mostly available 24/7 and extremely helpful with one even helping me print a stack of visa papers.
