Taupo is 40 km from the hostel. I had the whole room to myself. It was very clean, tidy and comfy. Kitchen and living areas were well organised and clean. Separate cutlery/plates etc for each room. Spacious outdoor. Clean bathrooms and linen. Excellent location. The hosts were lovely. You can tell how much they love running this place by looking at how well maintained it is.

Taupo is an absolute mecca for all things outdoors – including hiking the famous Tongariro crossing, trout fishing, skydiving, jet boating, white water rafting, mountain biking and sailing on the Great Lake with the hostel's yacht 'Fearless'. The bed! Normally I don't like upper bunk bed but this one is stairs, not ladders to going up. Also, there are 2 pillows in the bed that never happened in another hostel in NZ. I really appreciate that!
