Nestled deep in a magical garden, the Gardenhouse on George combines Burra’s famed rustic charm with the cosiness of a traditional European gardenhouse but with all the modern comforts.

Your host Will fell in love with Burra when he stopped off for a night’s rest on a trip to the Flinders Ranges from Adelaide some years back. Since that night he dreamt of living in a Cornish Miner’s cottage. In 2021 his wish was granted and for the next two years he devoted time, money, and love toward the restoration of the garden and the large shed and sleep out in the middle of the property which became the Gardenhouse on George.

The Ngadjuri people are the traditional owners of the land in and around Burra and it is likely that the Burra Creek, just down the road from the Gardenhouse on George, has long served as a communal gathering point. Today Burra is a significant regional centre for heritage tourism with its famed copper mine and its many streets of remarkably handsome public and private buildings dating from the 19th century. The property is on the Heysen Trail and in just a matter of minutes on foot in each direction you can be either in the centre of town or standing on the edge of the semi-arid plain that marks the Goyder Line that runs across the state.
