We absolutely loved our stay and the accommodation really made the trip for us. Carole was an amazing host who went above and beyond. When we first landed she offered to walk us up to the square so we could get our bearings, which was very...

I was travelling through Béziers from Paris which was great as its direct from Paris and then just a short walk from the train station. Also I have to mention the insanely comfy bed, the huge shower and overall gorgeous design. Thanks to Carole...

Carole
The property was built in 1870. The ground floor was the atelier(workshop), which was completely derelict. I assisted a builder in renovating this space between August and September 2022. I have striven to retain and repair all the doors, flooring, sink, traditional Languedoc hood and window. Some of the panes of glass are original. I have exposed the oak beam which was encased in plaster, and cleaned up an old cast iron wood burner that is now just decorative. The decor is simple and rustic and is strongly influenced by my time living in Kenya. Decorative pieces are either inherited or from my own personal collection. Due to our city centre location, bikes are not able to be accepted/stored at this property and no animals are accepted.
Welcome. My name is Carole, and I have been the owner of this 150 year old house since 11/2021. Throughout my career I have worked with the public either nursing or in hospitality as a professional cook. Before moving to Béziers I owned a café in York, UK, where I was the cook, producing everything, using local producers and seasonal produce. I also used the venue to host events which helped those of us in this service industry to be as proactive as possible in reducing our Enviromental impact. Why Béziers?, I wanted a small city, that had a lot of history and was architecturally attractive, a theatre, cultural events, close to the beaches and good transport links, also markets that I could walk to daily without ever having to step inside a supermarket again! I wanted to live in a community, feel life around me, be greeted in the streets, feel part of something bigger than myself, and a very nice climate. I swim, walk everywhere, go to lunch time concerts, meet friends for coffee and renovate my part of the house. I also do a lot of cooking and entertaining which I just love. Unfortunately due to our central location bicycles are not accepted at the property due to lack of storage space. It is also animal free. I am full of local knowledge and information, so would be very happy to share this with you, point you in the right direction, or bus stop, and help you make the most of your stay in this lovely City.
Quartier St.Jacques, is a residential area, in a friendly, cosmopolitan neighbourhood. We are a 5 minutes walking distance to Allée Paul Riquet, where there is a flower market every Friday and a brocante market on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The summer activities also centre around here including, the jeudi soir's (Thursday evenings ) throughout July and August when the Allée is filled with wine and food stalls, and live music. The famous Feira(festival) from the 12-15th August, is 5 days of celebrating the city and it's culture, so get on your dancing shoes and be ready for lots of very late nights. The amphitheatre, St.Nazaire Cathedral are minutes from my doorstep. Our local 12th century church-St Jacques with its pretty square and fabulous views are again at the end of my street. The Canal du MIDI are a leisurely 20 min walk away, or jump onto Le Petit Train which runs from the town centre and back regularly from April - October. At the end of the street is a mural (trompe l'oeil), and you can follow a trail through the city with a map looking for all of them on the sides of buildings, this seems to be popular in France, they are often depicting figures and scenes from the local history. Getting around. Location is central therefore you can walk everywhere. There is the tourist train running through the town and onto the nine locks of Fonseranes, from April to October . Local bus and train links to beaches and towns are excellent, and the buses are extremely inexpensive. Secure parking is available in the nearby, underground car park called Jean Jaures. Similarly, some street parking with meters are available which are free between 7pm-8am and at weekends. Subject to local laws at the time.
