The Elisabetin neighborhood hosts two of the most important higher education institutions in Timisoara: West University, "Politehnica" University, "Eugen Todoran" Central University Library and the Central Library of the Polytechnic University. The first UPT student dormitory was built in 1927. The dormitories of the Western University were given for accommodation in 1968, and the last ones were completed in 1988.
