This is a treasure. Located near bus terminal (Tracopa - one of the mayor bus lines in Costa Rica), on walking distance from mayor San Jose's museums: National museum, Pre-Columbian gold museum, and a Jade museum. The guesthouse is a nice old house with everything you need. The kitchen is well equipped. Everything is very clean. The owner, Senora Mayela, is a treasure as well, a warm-hearted person. She took the best care of me, and our conversations were delightful!
If you need a cozy place to stay in downtown San Jose, look no further. This is it!
Thank you, senora Mayela, for everything!

The lodge is a charming little house on a beautiful location. The owners were so gentle to receive is with coffee and cake and helped is later on to put the fire on to warm us up.
Breakfast outside with the sun rising and warming us up
Modern rooms, very spacious. Good breakfast buffet and nice restaurant and bar for dinner and drinks in the evenings. Nice pool on the terrace. Gym is not too big but has the most important equipment.
Wonderful accommodation in the middle of a beautiful jungle-like garden (best reached by 4x4). The tents are a really nice idea and you can see and hear different animals directly from the porch. The owners were very friendly and the dinner was delicious (book in advance). I would book again anytime.
The breakfast and dinner are fantastic. The quality and freshness of the food is second to none in the area. Very comfortable and spacious rooms. Huge bathroom. The location is perfect as its right in front of the river. Great service by the staff.
I only stayed 1 night and booked that specific hotel to try the steak house which I learned after the checking that it was not serving dinner on Sunday. (My fault for not asking) Booked a suite which was decent
Adorable cabin with great views. It gets COLD at night, but the room was stocked with more cozy blankets than we needed. Staff was lovely — kind and helpful. Dinner at the property was the best we’ve had on our month in CR.
the pool is really nice, and the Restaurant, Baraka, probably part of the Hotel, served very good food, we had the included breakfast and dinner, Restaurant staff was very professional and nice.
Very special place with a nice inner courtyard with trees and birds flying in. The owner nice and helpful.
I liked the fact that the facility provided breakfast and dinner daily at a reasonable price. I enjoyed the location of my private room which was about 20 ft from the pool area. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the tours that were suggested during my stay. For the price you can't beat this hostel, but it's not in the best area. Overall, I would definitely stay here again. I was a little emotional during check out today. Will be back Costa Rica Backpackers!
- dinner and breakfast were great - unique location, 2700 m above sea level, - hummingbirds at your doorstep and the famous quetzal in the area - wooden houses with lots of warm blankets and an electric heater
El Toucanet is a delightful small hotel in the mountains with rustic cottages and a spacious, beautiful restaurant overlooking a garden. Moises, at the desk, was a gracious and caring host, as was the kitchen staff. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. Navigation is a must, as the hotel is about 30 minutes from the Pan American Hwy (Hwy 2) - absolutely worth the effort to get there. The sunny morning at breakfast with windows open and many species of hummingbirds feeding was most memorable.
