It is quite large and needs a couple of hours.
It is quite large and needs a couple of hours. Do't spend so much time downstairs that you are too tired to see upstairs, which is very interesting. The museum itself is a bit old and some things have already been taken to the new museum which should be opening in Giza next year. You will be approached by guides who want to show you round. I would say that you don't really need one the first time you go. I would look around first and then, if you want to know more then hire one. Some guides are good but others do not tell you much more than what you can read for yourself. Remember to haggle as they will start high

Get your self a guide as the information written before the exhibit does little justice for the artifact your looking at. See it whilst you can. One of the world's great museums, we visited four times and once you get to know it, it's wonderful. It's also frustrating, quirky, and old fashioned - but that's part of the charm. Worth digging into properly.

Can it pass any standards of Museum?
Can it pass any standards of Museum? It has most precious collection in the world. What does the staff do if they cannot even provide labels to artifacts ? You feel like crying looking at it not because it is overstuffed but because it shows no one cares about heritage including the the whole ministry of of Antiquities. They have made the case of return of antiquities to country of origin very weak. Will I come again ,NEVER.
