I used to live near hear and walk my dog in the gardens every day. A great way to spend a morning is to take a trip up in the Cable Car from Lambton Quay to the top. Get out and take in the spectacular view of the whole of Wellington. At the top of the Cable Car is a small cable car museum that is interesting to visit, there is also the Observatory open to visitors. Then wander down through the gardens via the playground if you have children with you. Then down to the sound shell and along to the Lady Norwood Rose Garden and stop for a break at the cafe in the Rose Gardens called PICNIC. Then wander over to Tinakori Road and down some of the side streets that have some very quaint little houses in them especially Ascot Street. Our PM residence is on Tinakori Road in a lovely old building that used to be the dental clinic. Then wander down Hills Street past the new Cathedral and Parliment Buildings to Old St Pauls which is a stunning old wooden building. Then check out Parliment buildings and stop in Molesworth Street opposite parliment at the Back Bencher Pub which is famous for it's Politician Puppets the hang on the walls. It is a nice place for lunch or a drink. Then go down onto Lambton Quay and check out the shopping precinct there. The Bot Gardens as they are known to locals are one of my favourite things in Wellington and cover several hectares or hilly terrain. If you have children check out the duck pond there too.

    do not miss !

do not miss ! the funicular takes you up and you wald easily down. A pity that the beautiful old cemetery was cut in two by an ugly motorway... Amazing such a garden amidst the town ! Perfectly well kept, very pedagogic postings, pleasant cafes... Unfortunately the begonia greenhouse was closed, in spite of the fact that we were there at opening hours...

Some great sculptures, wasn’t the right time of year for the flowering gardens but imagine would be beautiful , took tram to top ,had a refreshment at the cafe (great staff) then walked back down thru the gardens.
